UTI won't go away

Hi there
I wondered if anyone has had problems with a UTI that won't go away? I developed symptoms at the beginning of August but left it a week or so before going to GP as I thought it would clear on its own. GP did urine test which showed infection and trace of blood and prescried anti-biotic which cleared it straight away - but 2 days later it was back.
I went back to Gp a few days later expecting he would prescribe the same again but for a longer period, but I ended up with different ones. I've been taking these for two days and nothings happening - except for a raging headache and dizzy/queezy feeling. I still have 5 days supply left but am thinking of going back to GP. We're off on holiday in a week and I don't fancy being in pain and constant trips to loo while there. Any advice appreciated. Thanks in anticipation

Just realised this thread is years old. Things have probably (hopefully) moved on for the OP now🙈

My maths is not great, but isn’t it EIGHT years old?!

About 10 years ago, I suffered a lot with UTIs, then they disappeared, to return in March this year. That one lasted for just over 2 months. I was so relieved when it went away, but it came back in mid June and is still with me. It`s caused me to miss my sister-in-laws 80th birthday party, a show in Skegness starring Anton du Bek and Giovanni Pernice that I`d really been looking forward to, and 2 weeks ago I missed my grandson`s wedding. I`ve had several courses of antibiotics, and 2 weeks ago a visit to a Urology clinic, resulting in 2 appointments in September for an ultrasound and a flexible cystoscopy. Fingers crossed!

I had this and went to a urogynaecologist she prescribed oestrogen pessaries which cleared up the vaginal atrophy which was part of the problem. I also had a cystoscopy and was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis, I was put on ĺow dose antibiotics daily for 6 months but I didn't like taking antibiotics for so long, I had read about D Mannose which you can get in a health food shop or online, I asked the consultant about this and she said if it works take it. I take 2 daily and have done for the past 5 years and no more UTIs so far, thank goodness. Apparently D Mannose is a type of sugar that stops E Coli sticking to the lining of the bladder, just be aware that with it being a sugar if you're diabetic check with hour GP first.

I would imagine that it’s cleared up by now.

For UTI try coconut kefir - plain of course. It worked for me after about 5 months of an intractable UTI which was horrible. I used it topically, frequently. And it took about a week to clear up. Been free since. I just use the stuff occasionally now, if I get anything like a symptom. Sooo grateful.

Well done Jane. The antibiotics didnt even work for me when I tried them.
I hope there are people reading this who are in need of the info.

GP gave me antibiotics for just 3 days which calmed it down about 10 years ago. He advised me to purchase D-mannose. Not available on the NHS. Took his advice and haven’t had a UTI since. I keep it in the medicine cabinet and although I haven’t needed it, I throw it away when past the BB date and purchase a new batch. Cannot recommend it enough.

Cant find either.

Strange, it only showed up once I had posted the above.

I have 2 unopened pots of DManose if anyone needs it.

Best company to buy genuine DManoose is sweet cures. They are so efficient and also available to answer any questions .

UTI's post menopause are now called Genitourinary syndrome of Menopause ( GSM) and starting localised Oestrogen can really help alieviate them .
