I had a prolapse nine years ago. The consultant I saw felt it was a waste of time to mess about with pessaries and advised me to have the op. The operation went well, I was in hospital for four days and haven't really had any problems since, apart from a very mild recurrence of the prolapse last year, which my GP said didn't need anything doing to it. I was told before the op that any prolapse could reoccur.
If I ever need to have another prolapse repair I wouldn't hesitate. Nine years ago, the recovery time from the operation was the same as that for a hysterectomy, i.e. about eight weeks and that was mainly about resting and no heavy lifting.
I hope your appointment with the specialist goes well. You could ask what his views are regarding management v operation.
