A question about sleep, to nightowls

A silly question really.

If you need to catch up on some sleep, when do you do it?

I am a morning person, and I get an early night if possible.
So what do nightowls do? confused

I know a nightowl person and he is getting very tired, but can't sleep earlier, and has to get up in the morning for work.

Sleep is very important! I'm hoping that the politicians who are making such important decisions on our behalf are getting enough good quality sleep but suspect few do.
I'm so happy to sleep so much better now I've retired. Maybe some people just have a different sleep pattern? If they can organise life around it they're ok. Its hard if they can't though. I know several real sufferers.

He is planning to have a nap when he gets home from work, but I would have thought that would make him go to bed even later.

I just wondered how people manage.

I, too am a night owl. I used to work just mornings which was ok as I found that I was usually fine till @ 1pm when I'd hit a wall. I have a Paul McKenna stop smoking cd that sends me to sleep for @ 15 minutes and, doing that each afternoon used to give me just enough sleep to get through the rest of the day. It didn't actually stop me smoking [I used to wake up and have a ciggie, although I did eventually stop 9 years ago]but it did send me to sleep which the relaxation cd's didn't do.

Wasn't there something recently about not having sleeps during the day because it could affect blood pressure and cause strokes?

I used to be a morning person until my health took a downturn. When I was still working, I used to sleep in the afternoon on Saturday and Sunday (and I mean getting into bed). I could never nap in the chair after work. Now I'm at home, I sleep when I can. I rarely have an uninterrupted night's sleep, so I often nap in the day. I also find it better if I get up in the morning when I feel refreshed rather than at a set time. I would like to get a better routine and do try different things now and then.

DH sleeps badly but has afternoon naps which drive me scatty as he then goes to bed very late having watched a late film and I have to wait until he goes to bed as he makes so much noise . If I'm woken up I don't go back for several hours so sit up and watch badgers and listen to owls.

I get up at 03:00 four mornings a week to go to work. I go to bed at 19:30 - 20:00. It's not often that I go straight to sleep, specially on the first night after having time off. If I'm very tired when I get home, usually 07:30ish I go back to bed for 2 - 3 hours. This works well for me. I sleep well during the day as I used to work permanent night shift in the nursing home before I retired.

Glad you have found a sleep pattern that works.

Stansgran - that is what I think will happen. He will go to bed even later.

I have "power naps" when I need them, usually about 20 minutes to half an hour. Not every day and it doesn't affect my sleep pattern (bed at 10, read or chat until 10:30, sleep until 6 or 7 a.m.)

I sometimes nod off during the day, particularly if energetic 4 year old has been here for a while.

Trying to get to bed by 11pm if possible, as I sleep better than if I go after midnight.Get up fairly early (7am) most days now, but wake up several times during the night just now as the weather is so hot.

These days I go to bed at a sensible(for me) 11pm. and do fall asleep only to wake up at 3am, Im wide awake so get up and listen to the radio or do what Im doing now--on my laptop.I go back to bed after about two hours or so and sleep until approx 7am I dont seem to need lots of sleep but I do catnap during the day, not every day and the length of time varies.My eldest grandson is the same.I find a cool bedroom and a lavender smell on my pillow helps.
