Bigger boobs - is it due to HRT?

I've been on HRT for about 6 months and recently I've noticed my bras getting very tight. Thought it might have been general weight gain but I haven't really noticed any change in my other clothes. I got measured today and I've gone up a whole cup size! Has anyone else experienced this as a result of HRT? Is only thing I can think of...

Yes, on oestrogen patch only and boobs have got bigger with no weight gain. Definitely feel firmer and at 67 that's great!

Always had small boobs and was told by an older lady once in a clothes shop that they would get bigger as I got older. Blimey she was right! Post menopause I'm still a dress size 8-10 (though gone slightly lumpy) but bra cup EE.
Mind you, correct size/ fitting bra helps and must be advised.
No HRT.

Now, if they could make an HRT than reduced the tum and bum, but kept the boobs... that would be in high demand! grin

I was on HRT for 13 years. My boobs did increase, my male doctor at the time said, 'some women pay to have that done' At one point the symptoms began to come back and I went to the docs, not my own GP unfortunately. The new doc put up my dose and I gained a cup size! I put myself back down to the original dose but the boobs stayed the same. I think it affects women in different ways.

Hi,
I always had a small chest and cup size despite any weight I would put on. I definitely put my increase to HRT. From a modest 36 B at a steady level most of my life since 30's. On HRT they just kept increasing till they are now 36 D. I was only on HRT for two years as recommended. I think it depends on which one it is, the pure oestrogen for me as I had had a hysterectomy and still had my ovaries. Not sure if all these things make a difference.
Hope this helps, but do check in the box of pills as to the side effects.

My boobs increased after I started the menopause. I went from an A to a B cup - no big deal for many but believe me , when you have never had boobs, getting them at my age is not something you really want.

Not HRT, just menopause. If you read across the menopause pages on the internet you will see its there as an effect of menopause ( together with laying fat around the belly , smelly sweat and several other issues).

I think it's common for boobs to increase at menopause (along with tums) whether on HRT or not. Most of us put on weight at menopause but even without extra weight bigger boobs and tums seem common.

No HRT, btw.

Mine have been huge all my adult life (double G cups) thanks to both grandmothers having more than their fair share, passed on to moi. Waiting for them to get to the shrinking stage.

Also, with menopause comes the loss of your firm/denser glandular tissue breasts...and they become fatty. I have been on HRT for a very very long time and it does not stop them from becoming fatty!

I did change types, and went to the gel + progesterone pill and my nipples were more sensitive for about a week, then all calmed down.

Still have fatty breasts! LOL

If you have breast tenderness along with increase in size on the combined HRT pill, it's worth checking with your GP according to this article:

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/health/news/6308802/Tenderness-indicates-breast-cancer-risk-from-HRT.html

Accepting risk is a personal matter, of course. If managing without HRT is too difficult to contemplate, the risk of stopping it may be greater than other associated risks.

Yes - I've been on HRT for 5 years and it's the best thing since sliced bread- also prevous non descript boobs have gone up two sizes with no other weight gain. Result!!

Always had big boobs but they have got bigger as I put on weight which I am trying to loose. My daughter always worried that should would take after me and my grandaughter is the same. They are both ok tho small and pert( lucky things)
Always hated my boobs when I was a young teenager boys stare at you and I used to blush and get embarrassed.

Sorry to hear that, Nfk. Wishing you an easier time flowers

I'm afraid Seb that I'm back on the Premarin. The synthetic stuff just didn't work and without it I quickly head towards suicide at worst or divorce at best. I'm back on an even keel now and will ask for plant based next renewal. What were/are you on Anya? Is it oestrogen only or combined?

Seb2015 Fri 16-Sept-16 13:06:56

Anya, I'm so glad there's an alternative; it makes me sick when I think of those poor mares

lizzypopbottle Fri 16-Sept-16 13:04:38

My mum had big boobs and my older sister does but mine were always small (virtually non-existent during my teens). I endured a lot of jokes about my lack of curves but I thank my lucky stars for small boobs. It never stopped boys fancying me, nor did the family nose I inherited! After breastfeeding, my temporary bazookas shrivelled away to nothing. My late husband referred to them (affectionately) as a couple of empty baccy pouches! They filled out a bit eventually though. I'm happy with them.

Breasts get bigger during pregnancy because the mammary tissue/milk ducts develop. Apart from that, which shrinks away after weaning, they consist mostly of fat so they will get smaller if you lose weight and vice versa. Trouble is, weight is lost all over so it's slow to show. I think it's a good idea to consult your GP about any changes you notice when you start HRT but it's also worth checking your weight and measuring your waist once a week in case it's simply weight gain. Then you know what to do!

Anya Fri 16-Sept-16 12:36:55

Yes Seb and as an animal lover I asked, and was prescribed, a plant based HRT. Don't ask me what one it was.

Yes, I've gone from a 34c to a 34F. I'm aboutb7lb heavier than I was when I was working. I think it's an age thing.

Phoebes Fri 16-Sept-16 12:30:30

I haven't out on weight and my boobs have gone from a B cup to an F cup. Still a 36 though. Can't explain it!!

Craftycat Fri 16-Sept-16 12:03:16

I have a horrible feeling that as they get less firm they take up more space in your bra.I've always been 36E even when I was a size 12 in jeans ( I remember those days!)but recently I have got up 2 cup sizes.
Never taken HRT.

oldgoose Fri 16-Sept-16 11:31:55

I've never taken HRT but my boobs have grown over the years. I think it must be some sort of hormone thing. Trouble is, as we age we have more testosterone, so we will all have deep voices and huge knockers.

Swanny Fri 16-Sept-16 11:06:51

My boobs grew a lot when I stopped HRT grin. I have put on a little bit on tum and bum since retiring but my 'frontage' has gone from 34D to 36FF shock

Jaycee5 Fri 16-Sept-16 10:49:43

I'm 64 and my boobs have never been bigger. I am a bit overweight but a largish 14 so not that much. I have gone in a relatively short time from a 36D to a 38E. I have a drawer full of barely worn or unworn bras that don't are too small. I keep them because may one day ...
I am quite short so am top heavy.
I am not on HRT. I think it is just that I don't do much exercise nowadays. I never did much but just in little ways, like rarely needing to walk up stairs and not being able to rush around. It all goes on my stomach or bust though but that will be the last places I will lose it from.

Ramblingrose22 Fri 16-Sept-16 10:38:37

I wish HRT would have the same effect on me! If anyone knows how to increase boob size without getting pregnant, HRT, implants or putting on huge amounts of weight everywhere, please let me know!
