Maltesers at 6 months

Please don't be so angry about these young mums, you have no idea how they they might have been brought / dragged up, spent their life in care etc.
Just be thankful that you had parents who loved you and were able to give you a good education.

There is a great deal of information regarding feeding babies and young children etc but it is in newspapers, TV news/programmes, leaflets in surgeries etc. All the sort of places that the uneducated mums in the above posts are unlikely to see as they don't read newspapers, do not watch the news or 'boring programmes' and don't pick up leaflets other than to let a toddler screw them up. Unfortunately new mums are thrown out of maternity wards within hours of giving birth and home visits by midwives and health visitors are just about as rare as hen's teeth. I used to teach GCSE Child Development and it was difficult sometimes to instil knowledge into those who didn't see anything wrong with the way they saw family members bringing up children. I know the answer is better education but who, when and how is the problem.

DD went to visit an acquaintance once. Baby aged 10 months was given a torn up sausage roll followed by an iced bun on the tray of his high chair. Oddly adults were given readymade wholemeal bread ham sandwiches. The Greggs diet? ?

I've been vocal on the "tyranny of the party bags" since my daughter was seven felice and she's 41 now lol! You knock yourself out giving them the best time then there's all these little expectant faces at the end gggrhh! Anyway back to the thread ..are these parents just careless and thick? There has never been more publicity about the health dangers of sugar so it can't be ignorance just pig headedness maybe? I remember the mums throwing chips and burgers over the school fence when jamie oliver was trying to introduce healthy school dinners..what was that all about? Recently i saw a toddler in his pram drinking a can of coke! The mind boggles.

A baby of six months should be just starting on baby rice! Six months is now the recommended age for weaning. But no doubt that will be changing again!

It is Childrens parties and Party Bags which annoy me. One party DGS went to an, American family, all the food was sweet, just cakes and sweeties, no real food at all.
Party bags, why, why does a child need a bag full of sweets for attending a party.
The cost is huge and it is just junk.Sorry bit of a bugbear for us.
DGS doesn't like sweet things so I feel sorry for him.

That is so scary, the Mum thought it was ok, the child could have choked and that is saying nothing of the sugar content. Some younger parents now seem incapable of saying ' no ' to their children and do anything for a quiet life. Not all are like this of course.

Biggest cause of hospital admissions for children under 12 in England is dental decay. Children as young as 2 are having all their teeth removed, it's mums like this one who are the cause of it all. How can it be that they haven't heard what happens?

I saw a mum in Sainsbury giving her small one an olive - he loved it.

I also taught pregnant school girls and nursing mothers some of whom thought it ok to feed their babies pot noodles etc. We took the opportunity to educate them in this as well as GCSE's.

When I had my first son in 1983 I had a young diabetic homeless girl in the next bed. One day she lightly smacked her baby for filling a nappy? I often wonder about that child who will now be 32 hopefully.

It reminds me of a report many years ago of a mother who gave her girls a big bar of Dairy milk chocolate every day - because it contained a 'glass and a half of milk in each bar'.

That baby's teeth will be rotted before the age of 2 or 3.

I saw a youngish chap yesterday with a baby in a buggy and a toddler on one of those buggy boards. He had enormous flipping headphones on. It was all I could do not to take them off him.

No! I get terribly wound up about children. The latest reports from Yemen and Syria fill me with the deepest sadness and hopelessness. I am sure that our humanity is diminishing year on year.
