Sleep problem

Not insomnia, I go straight to sleep and usually sleep for about 7 hours, then jump happily out of bed, eager to start a new day. But that's at 5am, so by 9pm I want to go to bed.
When the clocks go back it's worse than ever. Trying to stay up later doesn't work as I still wake far too early.
I know I'm a lark and don't want to be an owl but need to adjust my body clock. Has anyone managed to change their natural rhythm for sleeping, or anything else?

Oh to have a full night's sleep! I read/write up my diary in bed from about 10.45 until about 11.30, fall fast asleep then wake anytime from 1 or 2am, 3am if I'm lucky then lie awake or doze until about 6am. Sometimes I get up at 6.15-6.30 or once (only once) recently I drifted off to sleep until 8am. Unbelievable! I often nod off in the evenings watching TV which is annoying especially if it's a programme I really want to watch. If I don't go out in the afternoon I fall asleep then.

I go out like a light somewhere between 10 and 11 and happily wake around 4 30 to 5m it suits me fine I wake up refreshed and usually get my camera and go down on the beach for an early morning walk taking photos of the sun rising over the sea fantastic if I m tired and doing nothing during the day I ll have a half hour nap in the afternoon without meaning too I think 5am is a reasonable time to wake up

I'm often awake for a couple of hours between about 1 and 4 am. Hardly ever sleep through (I don't count loo trips). If I can't sleep I have to use a spare room where I can a) have a reading light on, or b) have the radio on. Can't possibly have the radio on in our room since dh would wake straightaway.
For this reason I hate staying in hotels now - nowhere to escape to if I can't sleep, though at least the Kindle means I can read without disturbing dh.

I go to bed between 11 and 12pm. Very often wake at time between 2 - 4am. So as not to disturb DH I have my earphones attached to my mobile ready to listen to the radio. Love to catch Sounds of the 60'site,

Oops. Message got sent before I had finished! I was saying - Sounds of the 60's,or Desert Island Discs, depending on who the Castaway is. BBC i Player is brilliant for catching up on missed programmes. Very often asleep before the programme has finished!

busilizzie My grandson is prescribed melatonin as he has very poor sleep patterns due to autism. It's made a big difference to him (and his parents!) and he copes much better with his school days after a good night's sleep.

mrsmopp I've only drunk decaffeinated coffee for years and found if I have had a 'full strength' coffee anytime through the day that I'm still awake till 2-3 o'clock in the morning. Tea doesn't affect me as much but I can't drink it later than about 3pm or that keeps me awake till the early hours too sad Normally sleep from about 11.30pm to 7am but I had to be up by 6am Saturday and Sunday so was in bed for 9pm last night and slept till 8am today - wonderful smile
