If your in pain go to your local A&E they will at least give you pain killers to tide you over

All dentists should have an emergency number on their answer phone - it's a condition of service. Ring your own dentist ro get it.

Nhs Choices also have a list of dentists with a list of the services they offer.

Round here, A and E wouldnt do anything as there would be no dentist on duty.

Yes, I realise that I could probably do that. I just feel that going to A&E is for real emergencies and not tooth pain. They are so overstretched that it doesn't feel right. But if the pain does get too bad then I will have to go.
Why is it that these things always happen over a weekend or bank holiday when nothing is open?

I cant help with the emergency dentist as mine has a number I call and I get the practice on call dentist . But in terms of pain relief, try a pharmacist. I had some severe dental pain a while ago and ended up taking a pill every 2 hours just for the 24hrs to tide me over . I cant remember which was which but it worked a treat.
It was 2 different sorts of painkiller each one taken every 4 hours but it was the first one at 8am and the 2nd one at 10am and then the first one at 12 am if you see what I mean.

Toothache is the worst !!

Pain killers and oil of cloves might help. Emergency dentists are like gold dust. A and E would only give you the number of the same emergency service that 111 did.

I do hope you find some relief from your pain from somewhere.

The first thing I tried was my own dentist. Their answer machine tells you that they are closed and for emergencies to phone 111. They don't give any other number.

NHS emergency dental cover? You gotta larf. About the only place you will get help is if you live in a university town with a dental medical school.. Their A/E will help. There is very little provision anywhere else unless you are a private patient.

Im so sorry you are in pain, theres nothing worse than dental pain. We have an out of hours dental cover for bank holidays, its in a department of the local hospital. You have to be there between five and seven in the evening, theres a cut off point , that they won't see anyone after a certain time.

I would advise Paracetamol with codeine, it called co codomal and its available in pharmacy only. Take that every 4 to 6 hrs. In between you can take Ibroprofen . So for instance , if you take the co codomal at 4pm you can take the Ibroprofen at 6pm, then more co codomal if needed at 8 or 10 pm. Provided you have no contraindications or allergies , these are safe to take until you get dental treatment.
