As I've previously posted I've been waiting for a hip-replacement since August 16 got a date for June 12th. Yesterday got a call asking if I'm willing to see a different surgeon who has spare capacity on Friday this week to do my surgery. I was initially stunned and thought no that can't be done, then my sensible head told me there is no real reason I should turn them down.
So I saw a lovely surgeon this morning who calmed all my fears and doubts and providing I get through all the pre-op checks tomorrow my operation will be done on Friday.
With all that I read in the papers and on the news this just shouldn't be happening but I will be forever grateful that it has.

I'm glad all went to plan Maggiemaybe I hope he has a good recovery.
I fasted for 8pm Thursday till they told me it was off at 2:45 today so by then I was starving. I had to grab a sandwich and a banana before I set off home at least they let me sip water till noon.

Maggiemaybe
Well done to your DGS and I hope he continues to make good progress

Jalima1108 Fri 07-Apr-17 19:41:23

So sorry it was postponed tanith, after all that anticipation. I hope they didn't starve you!!

All the best for the 18th (only 11 days).

Swanny Fri 07-Apr-17 19:28:00

So sorry tanith. As I was reading the thread I was preparing a positive response, only to reach the point where you didn't have the op. Fingers crossed all goes well for the 18th.

Maggiemaybe Good news your DGS had his op and came round without worries flowers

Maggiemaybe Fri 07-Apr-17 19:14:27

Ah, no, tanith, that's a shame. DGS's op did go ahead and despite my warning DS that he might do what DS did as a child and react badly to the anaesthetic, taking ages to come round, he came to straight out of theatre and proceeded to eat a whole packet of biscuits. That's my boy!

Nandalot Fri 07-Apr-17 19:12:24

Poor you, Tanith. Hope all goes better for you on the 18th. Well done for being so laid back about it.

Luckygirl Fri 07-Apr-17 18:37:51

Sorry you were let down tanith - but not too long to wait now.

Welshwife Fri 07-Apr-17 18:04:24

Here in France before you have an op you shower the day before in Betadine and also the morning of the op. It smells like T Gel shampoo. I think it is to kill any bacteria on the skin.

Pity you were cancelled but at least you had an explanation and a hopeful new date. Everyone I know with new hips is so pleased with them - amazing what they can do these days.

DD went for a scan this week but it could not be done due to shortage of radiographers. She still saw the consultant though. Then she was called in to have the scan yesterday - luckily it showed she definitely does not have bone cancer but a huge hard ganglion with extra bits - it is in the ankle region - but as yet she does not know what will be done. She does not fancy the operation as it has a long recovery period and it can regrow. She is due to see an orthopaedic surgeon now - but I am so relieved!

tanith Fri 07-Apr-17 17:47:36

Well you wouldn't believe it if I told you, needless to say I was cancelled after an 8 hr wait. I'm fine about it apart from being exhausted, the surgeon came straight from theatre to explain what happened and apologies. He is checking for the first available slot hopefully on April 18th.

So thanks everyone I'm not too disappointed at least the weekend weather is going to be fantastic...

Nandalot Fri 07-Apr-17 17:38:56

Hope things go/went well for you.

Maggiemaybe Fri 07-Apr-17 09:47:42

Fingers very firmly crossed that this is going ahead, Tanith! flowers My little DGS1 should be having surgery today too - I am,waiting to hear whether it is actually happening. This is the fourth date he's been offered since Christmas, and he's never been 100% well on the day to allow them to operate.

henetha Fri 07-Apr-17 09:28:51

Best wishes that it all goes well Tanith. The same thing happened to me, - I got called in suddenly because of a cancellation. Isn't it wonderful, instead of all that waiting. Good luck.

Hope it all goes well.

Lazigirl Thu 06-Apr-17 18:22:32

Good luck tanith, hope all goes as planned. My DH had hip replacement 2wks ago and was home in 2 days. He's getting around on crutches, managing stairs & doing ok. Only irritation (for me) is that he has to sleep on his back in bed and snores like an express train!

Jalima1108 Thu 06-Apr-17 18:19:00

They may well get the results back in time; it's possible and if it has been flagged up as urgent by the surgeon they should manage it.
