As I've previously posted I've been waiting for a hip-replacement since August 16 got a date for June 12th. Yesterday got a call asking if I'm willing to see a different surgeon who has spare capacity on Friday this week to do my surgery. I was initially stunned and thought no that can't be done, then my sensible head told me there is no real reason I should turn them down.
So I saw a lovely surgeon this morning who calmed all my fears and doubts and providing I get through all the pre-op checks tomorrow my operation will be done on Friday.
With all that I read in the papers and on the news this just shouldn't be happening but I will be forever grateful that it has.

Fabulous news- with luck you will fly through the pre-op assessment and be operated on this Friday. It gives you little time to think about it but at least you have had the other hip operated on so you know what is ahead.

Wishing you all the best ?

If someone scheduled for surgery has a problem (any infection for instance) at their pre-op a vacancy becomes available and the short notice slot is offered to someone else on the list. This seems to happen reasonably often.

That's good news. Hope all goes well and your recovery is swift and straightforward too.

Great news. And if they slot you in for surgery pm and say you can have a piece of toast in the morning - don't . Someone didn't turn up in the morning for surgery so they asked me if I would like to have my op in the morning ,I couldn't because of that mouthful of toast. Wanted to get it over and done with.

Good luck, and at last a positive post on the NHS.

NHS not so good here! I have just received an appointment for an ultrasound at a cottage hospital that is 25 miles away! I live 10 minutes from the main hospital!

Good news and good luck for your surgery.

I've always had brilliant treatment from the NHS ,in fact I sometimes think the "problems" are magnified by the media in an effort of the government to lead us to believe its going down the pan so they can introduce an American style healthcare that will make them all a fortune.Hope your op goes well and you're back on your feet very soon

Wishing you all the best for tomorrow tanith

Sometimes it is much better not to have too much time to think about it smile

Thanks everyone I spent the morning having all the pre-op checks done the only stumbling block being the swabs for MRSA etc, the results probably won't be available in time. One dept says there isn't enough time but the surgeon and 2 other depts say its fine the op will go ahead anyway. So at present I am none the wiser, I've been told to come tomorrow at 7:15am with everything crossed that it will go ahead. So lots of fingers crossing please..grin

I'm resigning myself to the fact it probably won't go ahead but I'm fine with that at least all the tests are done now and I'm good to go whenever.

Luckygirl Thu 06-Apr-17 15:20:06

Very frustrating - but I doubt if they will go ahead without the swab results - they are so careful about that now - and rightly so.

Fingers crossed for you!

Good luck tanith hope it goes well for you.

Lucky You should be able to choose surely.

Jalima1108 Thu 06-Apr-17 18:19:00

They may well get the results back in time; it's possible and if it has been flagged up as urgent by the surgeon they should manage it.

Good luck tanith, hope all goes as planned. My DH had hip replacement 2wks ago and was home in 2 days. He's getting around on crutches, managing stairs & doing ok. Only irritation (for me) is that he has to sleep on his back in bed and snores like an express train!

jusnoneed Thu 06-Apr-17 18:41:32

Hope it all goes well.
