I have developed a painful earache today. It's gradually got worse over the last couple of hours. Any suggestions other than paracetamol?

Warm a dessert spoon and gentle rub just of front of your ear or if you have a heated pack hold this against your ear it but not too hot. If it persists its the GP for you.

I should of course also said a hot water bottle would also do but not too hot.

Always consult the doctor if earache lasts longer than a day, I find going to bed with whisky in hot milk, a hot water bottle wrapped in a small towel, pressed up against the ear and face works wonders.

Ibuprofen as earache is often caused by clenching the jaw through stress!

I've had earache today as well (unusual for me). I tried paracetamol and then another dose when it was time, but not much effect.

In desperation tried Ibuprofen and it worked like a miracle! Funny how some painkillers work for some things but not for others...

I think ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory whereas paracetamol isn't. So if your earache is caused by an inflammation it might respond better to ibuprofen?
