Simple Linctus always stops an irritating cough for me.

Have you been to the pharmacy? They can be helpful in suggesting the right cough mixture
I've been coughing for weeks, now. When I was coughing a lot in the night I got an extra pillow, put it at right angles to my usual pillow in order to lift my upper body. It did help.
I hope you feel better soon, it's miserable.

When I had the flu cold bug, my neighbour helpfully informed me she had heard it referred to as the 'hundred day cough' because that's how long it took to clear. I too resorted to an extra pillow to prop me up. Also, having seen something on here regarding pineapple juice being helpful at dispersing mucus, I tried drinking some every day. Coincidence maybe, but the cough cleared up (as much as they ever do for me), but I've started coughing again, having stopped the juice. I'm going back on it anyway, as it's no hardship to do and if it works, result!

As I have had various chest infections needing antibiotics this year, would advise anybody who has had a chesty cough for more than a fortnight to see the doctor.

Morgan Benelyn Original is like knock out drops, wonderful taken at night.

I've had a cough for 6 years and after seeing consultants and having many tests it appears the only option for me is to have an operation to clear the sinuses. I'm not yet ready to put myself through that pain so have been taking cocodamol (prescribed by my gp), which has a side effect of being a cough suppressant. I know codeine can be addictive but fortunately it hasn't had that effect on me. I also take pholcodine cough mixture when I get a flare up. I would have loved mine to have been the 100 day cough! smile

There is a virus going round which leaves you coughing for weeks. I have had it three weeks now, and sleeping is the main problem. For quite a while I have been sleeping in my recliner chair, which holds me more upright comfortably. It is not a chesty cough, there is nothing to shift, which is what makes it so bad.
I have been taking a cough medicine to help at night, just trying not to take it too often. And keep a glass of water handy too.

Thank you ladies
Good suggestions
Thought I might try the Vick on feet too
Found that on another thread.

We both have mucusy coughs, so following NonnaW's suggestion, I asked DH to bring back some Pineapple juice from Waitrose this afternoon. When he asked an assistant where the cartons were, he was told that, "although pineapple is a summer fruit, it is not available until winter confused , but he did bring home a bottle. What is going on? I looked on the My Shopping website, and according to that, the cartons are available, along with the bottles.
