Food suggestion for friend that won't eat

Lucky, is she under a lot of stress? I am struggling with eating, gone from size 12 to size 8, it is so difficult to eat when the sight or smell of food revolts you.

Do you think she is depressed? Not eating can be a way of saying "I've given up". If she has had stomach pain then she may well be scared to eat and have more stomach/bowel problems. All you can really do is be there for her, and try not to nag.

Does she eat sweets - no nutritional value but it might help to get her started and boiled sweets would at least refresh her mouth.

Hopefully she is drinking so not becoming dehydrated - will she try different drinks - milk, clear soup etc.

And, it is impossible to force someone to eat. Legally.

smoothies?fruits and veg low in acids.
can she do dairy?milkshakes?real yogurt is so good for a stomach that has been bombarded by medicines.
where i am you can get real yogurt from middle eastern and mediterenian(sp) delis and restaurants.
if its plain a nice jam or preserves mixed in.

Yes I had pro cal shots from GP, luckily before I disappeared completly. Like the wicked witch !!

yes i know its kind of a mean way to go about it but after she got some food in her she started thinking more clearly and requested things she was able to digest

I don't think suggesting small meals is going to help, really, if she doesn't want to eat.

There are drinks which could be prescribed for her which contain all necessary vitamins etc. and I'm surprised her GP hasn't done that.

Anorexia is quite a problem in the elderly. It might be worth having her GP refer your friend to a dietitian or nutritionist for more advice. Perhaps suggesting small meals, and often might be worth a go.
