I've just returned from a two week holiday during which I developed shingles. The first week (in England) I was itching and had a few spots on my back, which I was told were insect bites. During the second week (in France) I got the distinctive line of 'eruptions' and a huge amount of pain. It's affecting the nerve from my spine in the middle of my back round to the breast bone at the front and is just under my breast. So I can't wear a bra, which adds to the pain as I am flopping about.
The doctor in France was really good and gave me suitable medication and also some acupuncture. I would be most grateful for any advice from people who have experienced shingles and particularly in relation to whether acupuncture is helpful. The doctor recommended that I should go for some more treatments when I returned home.
Of course, it is Bank Holiday, so can't see the GP until at least Tuesday.
Has anyone got recommendations for somewhere to buy a bra I could tolerate, since this may go on for several weeks? I am hoping that the attack is halted, since I got a course of pills which are designed to do that.
Also, because of the strong pain relief I am now constipated. I have taken Senokot and waiting for results! Is there anything else I can do to help this?
Apologies for the length of this post, but I really want to reduce the pain and cope with the symptoms as well as is possible.
Positive news, positive thoughts, happy weekend.
