Whaaaaat? I can't think tonic water is any substitute for oestrogen! No-one needs to stop HRT at any magic age provided there is no adverse medical reason to stop. If anyone's doc suggests they need to stop then try another doc and read as much as you can including the current guidelines. When you approach 60 then patches and/or gel are preferable to tabs re stroke risk but that's about all. If you are otherwise healthy ( ie not overweight, good BP, don't smoke, don't drink too much and get exercise) then there should be no problem with continuing at least to 70 or beyond if you need to.

I would have stayed on HRT ,but a friend says drinking tonic water helps with her restless legs and the burning feeling ,might be worth a try

That is brilliant Pittcity and Volvariella I thought I was over the worst but I shall have to re-think HRT.

Why stop the HRT?

I have a king size duvet that is low tog on one half for DH and higher on my side. Similar to this one amzn.to/2wR8m5E

Thankyou everyone -I shall try all these ideas!

I used to find taking a Piriton tablet occasionally used to help. Also perhaps try walking more. If it just affects your legs perhaps check with your GP. Best of luck ,it does get better!

Quietdragon Keep a bowl of cold water with ice cubes by your bedside and a flannel and when you get the hot flush put the flannel in the cold water and damp yourself down, it truly is a lifesaver.

Good news is there is an end to it smile

Use two single duvets rather than one double so that you and your husband can have different tog ratings.

Get a cold pillow and put it behind your knees in bed. Wilkinsons have some, very reasonable. Good if your head gets hot too.

I am mostly past the menopause and do not take HRT any more and hot flushes are manageable.
However, I started getting very hot legs at night, particularly behind my knees and it was irritating but it is now unbearable.
I have changed the 'tog' of the duvet to very low and my husband says he is cold at night but this heat behind my knees persists.
It is not painful so I should be grateful really but it is quite horrid. Does anyone else get this? If so what helped?
