Janet and John books trigger warning 😳
Adult kids staying and not contributing.
Saw my optician last week (I have high eye pressure) and she advised me to take my BP regularly.
I had been doing so a couple of years ago after seeing a heart consultant as I have a murmur and lots of ectopics.. but last year I didn't bother taking it at all (I have a chronic pain condition and just didn't want yet another thing to worry about ) ... So .... on the advice of the optician I took it this evening and oh shock horror it is 157/89 ... help !
Please, any tips on how to change my diet and advice on getting this reading down.?

Sheena. I would be happy to have your readings and I am an 3 bp tablets!
Sheena the blood pressure reading you gave was the same as mine when I went into the nurses room to have it taken during my regular annual check last week.
She was unphased. Took it again _5 minutes later_and it was down to 130/88. These figures are endlessly variable.
High blood pressure can be caused by certain factors that are simply out of our control such as age, family history, race and gender, there are some key lifestyle choices that can help you control Blood Pressure.
Here are some option that will keep your Blood pressure under control.
•Consume food, which is rich in potassium like bananas and leafy green vegetable. Potassium helps your body rid itself of excess sodium.
•Flavonoids are potent blood pressure reducer. Berries are rich in flavonoids.
•Food rich with nitric oxide helps to open up blood vessels to lower blood pressure.
•Yogurt reduced their incidence of hypertension by more than 20%.
•Omega 3 fatty acids, which reduce inflammation, lower triglycerides and reduce blood pressure. Try Fatty fish like salmon and mackerel.
Try to control your blood pressure naturally instead of taking Blood Pressure Drug.
The American Heart Association recently recalled Blood Pressure Drug Losartan that contains cancer-causing toxins was supplied by Torrent Pharmaceuticals.
What you should do is go to your GP.
Sometimes mine BP is low, don't know why can somebody tell me what to do at that time?
I'm borderline Stage 1 so monitored every 6 months which I do with my own upper arm machine. I've manged to reduce my stress levels over the past 2 months and practising deep breathing and it's lower. Another thing I've altered is the chair I sit in to take the readings. On checking the guidance leaflet I was slumped with my heart lower than the monitor so higher readings may well have been false. I now sit in exactly the same place for every reading.
Have you been to your GP.? Maybe he would think you need meds.

When taking blood pressure, sit quietly for a few minutes then take your BP three times and take the average.
I have high blood pressure and have my own meter. this was the advice from my GP he also said to keep a record of my tests which I did for many years. Although it's said that exercise brings your BP down it didn't make any difference to mine. I only take 2.5 mg so not bad. I am not aware of any diet that would bring it down.
Nothing to do with BP. That is affected by your weight, and your weight is not affected by "toxins".
Clean out parasites? An emotive word, evoking images of tapeworms.
Here is a fact - Your body is designed to self-regulate and rid itself of by-products - how do you think homo sapiens managed to survive for millenia without all those cleansing concoctions sold by entrepreneurs to the worried well who think they have to actively scrub the inside of their gut or it will clog up with nasties.
A glass of water first thing in the morning will flush out your kidneys without also flushing out your purse - water is free. And your colon does not harbour a plaque of toxins. The contents are moved on continuously and the walls are self-cleaning
The same thing with BP. No need to panic, otherwise it will definitely rise. I’ll let you in to what helped me to stabilize it a bit.
I lost weight. To do this, I started doing yoga exercises in the morning, along with breathing exercises. I gave up coffee, black and green tea. I tried to stick to a diet, but it was tough
And you know what relieved my condition? It was when I cleared my body of parasites. I stopped wanting to eat so badly. I drank Dr. Parell Cleanse to clean them out.
And drinking hawthorn is very useful for the heart too, because it stabilises the pressure. Especially if you give up black tea and drink a decoction of hawthorn instead.
Sheena I'm in the same situation. I don't know why it's quite suddenly gone so high. Sometimes it's fine though. However now I'm having to record it twice a day for the GP I seem to have given myself 'white coat syndrome'! I only have to put the sleeve thingy on and I can feel myself getting stressed. I expect I'll be told to make some 'lifestyle changes' - no more M&S Salted caramel millionaire shortbread for me! Oh well. It's my health. I'll do the needful.
Just want to thank you all for your replies and comments... all very helpful .. I have had no internet since last Monday hence this delayed post .. but thank you all . My bp has gone done a fair bit .. so quite why it was so high last week I do not know.
I hardly ever use salt. Only add a little to the dough mix when I make bread.
I love cheese but it does give indigestion. and I know what you mean by chauvinistic french men, Welshwife.
I have been on an almost no salt regime for over 25 years and have been so successful with it that after one blood test my GP rang at about 9-30. pm and said ' put salt on your frites- your sodium levels are too low'. When the results arrived I was off the bottom of the scale.
One of the heart specialists I saw told me to stop eating cheese - he said '.Women love cheese and it is too salty '. He was such a chauvinist I didn't bother to tell him about the blood test as he shut me up when I did try to say.
The GP later checked I could eat cheese (without much reflux problem) as he said women need it for the calcium.
I would go go see your GP if you are worried. Your GP can arrange for you to wear a monitor for 24 hours which would give an accurate reading. Having said that, I find that a Resperate, a device that helps you slow down breathing, does work. I bought mine from an online chemist. Diet - well I guess we all know that reducing salt is useful and exercise.
Very funny
Charleygirl - so you only take meds before going to see GP??
I take mine at specific times of the day-firstly when I get out of bed, I then take my tablets and then my BP an hour later. 4 hours later before I take the evening dose and one hour later and sometimes randomly throughout the day.
Rightly or wrongly I take food before because otherwise I would not remember to take them.
I only do this 2 weeks before I am going to see my GP re my hypertension.
Good advice from Elegran I always do this, as like many, have white coat syndrome? so the only true readings are my own ones.Meds keep it on track, also a diet moderate in all things and low in alchohol and salt.I try and keep weight down as well.
