loopyloo I could certainly do with a new mattress. It's on our TO BUY list but something else also crops up. Thinks: I will start a new thread to ask opinions about memory foam mattresses!

Just wondering if acupuncture might help with the pain.
Also, if you can afford it, perhaps seeing someone privately to get an assessment.
When is the pain worse? Perhaps a different mattress might help or an electric heating pad.
Paracetamol at night might help you sleep.

Tanith/Megram/Humbertbear: thank you so much for your suggestions. Yes, I'm taking Vitamin D via the cod liver oil. Had heard about turmeric, together with ginger. However, these should not be taken while on anti-inflammatory medication. Will start taking both in tisane form as soon as I get off the ibuprofene. Have put dehumidifier on all day in bedroom with sheets rolled back. I think this did me good last night as pain much reduced this morning. smile

I find Pilates is a great help. I also take Turmeric capsules and Vitamin D.

Good Luck.

Anything is worth a try I hope you get some relief as hip pain is the devil to deal with it seems to affect all the leg joints and spine because you can't walk normally. Good luck.

Can I suggest vitamin D and calcium to strengthen the bones?

TANITH: yes, they xrayed the hip. At moment, recommending pilates. Hip replacement still in the long term. Actually, today with the pouring rain, it's hurting more again despite the ibuprofene. Oh well.

Have they prescribed physio yet? Did they check the range of movement and X-ray the hip? They will try meds, physio and other treatments to relieve the symptoms first then if the pain isn't relieved and your daily activities are affected they may suggest a new hip to you but hopefully physio may help.
I've had two replacement hips and can't the relief of not being in pain 24/7. I hope the meds help you.

Help! Almost overnight, I swear, I am hobbling around with a crutch and last week the hospital diagnosed hip arthrosis. They also said it is to be expected at my age (I'm 72) and already display arthritecky fingers. Prescribed Ibuprofene but I want to get off this and my crutch ASAP. Any good tips? I started taking 1000mg cod liver oil capsules two months ago, for a different reason, and I have read that organic apple vinegar is a good anti-inflammatory....?
