Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones, but I'm getting a bit concerned now.
I've always been slim, my parents were both very thin too, as are most of of the family.
But I've noticed recently that I' seem to be getting thinner, and I feel the cold more.
I would like to put on a bit of weight, so what foods are good for that?
I quite like a 'fry-up' but otherwise not much fried foods.

Skinny parents could well be an e xplanation. Neither of mine were slim, so despite avoiding all, or rather most, things calorific i have had a constant lifelong battle with my weight.
Apologies in advance to my children and grandchildren.
Its all in the genes.?

This happened to a friend of mine. She was very lucky - her GP diagnosed over-active thyroid straight away, but it is a diagnosis that is often missed. After treatment she not only regained her weight, she had so much more energy and her mood lifted considerably. So don't hang around - get a blood test and a thorough check up asap! Best of luck!!

IngeJones Type 1 Diabetes starts in childhood, Type 2 Diabetes is developed in Adulthood. I am thinking of going to my GP to check whether my weight loss is a problem although I need to lose weight, I was 16st 4oz now down to 14st 11lb.

I would definitely go to GP for a check up just to rule out any problems.flowers

My great niece developed Type 1 in her late twenties

Was weight loss her only symptom, Annie?

You can get Type 1 in adulthood - check it out. Not as common to start then, I agree.

Hi Fennel.
Definitely see your GP for a check up asap please as it could be a thyroid imbalance as already suggested which if so, can be sorted out by medication. It is quite a common problem. Uncontrolled Diabetes can also mean that you lose a lot of weight, but it is often accompanied by symptoms like i.e: a raging thirst which is almost unquenchable.
Keep us all posted. flowers

Apparently we should not eat tomato or tomato-based food if we have an ulcer and also avoid acidic fruit. DS has now discovered that those probiotic drinks are very good for his IBS/IBD.

Anniebach Sat 02-Dec-17 20:01:00

I cannot eat tomatoes or acidic fruits because of ulcer, or Fats, cannot eat wheat because of IBS, am use to it now.

I have recently started to drink Ensure every day to increase calorie intake, suppose to work up to two a day . It has certaintly helped my energy levels

humpty, I cannot recall what symptoms my g niece had, she lost a lot of weight, was diagnosed with type 2, shortly after she collapsed in the bathroom was rushed to hospital, into intensive care, was in a coma for two days, thank God she made a full recovery, injects several times a day. She is now pregnant.

My daughter lost a lot of weight a while ago and it turned out to be an overactive thyroid. Medication sorted it out

Can u not eat fats because of the ulcer Annie? I have an ulcer, am on omeprazole

Anniebach Sat 02-Dec-17 20:56:24

No Morgana, certaintly not a lot of dairy , between ulcer, IBS and now gastric reflux my digestive bits are a mess ,

Fennel, just remembered , my weight drop started when I moved house ?such stress

Fennel Sun 03-Dec-17 07:39:49

I've recently been diagnosed with an ulcer too, but the doctor told me you can eat anything! After treatment with another 'prazole.
But I think I've also becme allergic to lactose, so if it's not one thing it's another!
TG I can still eat bread, which I love (toast.)
Yes, this house move is very wearing - it's going on for such a long time, and it's all in French.

You need to see a health care professional if this is a sudden weight loss.
I lost weight round the tops of my legs as I got older I don't think there is much you can do about gaining in specific areas.
You can certainly put weight on eating nuts, I managed to do this advice from my son when the GP said I should put weight on.

Fennel Sun 10-Dec-17 16:03:27

After reading up on the internet I started my 'diet' with Nutella, a most unhealthy chocolate&nut spread. Two pieces of crispbread spread with Nutella for supper. I've put on 1kg in a week.
I've also bought a jar of Speculoos spread, which is even higher in calories, as an alternative.
Otherwise I'm eating my normal diet of wholegrain bread, plenty of fruit and veg.
Plus plain yoghurt, which doesn't seem to upset my stomach.
The hard part will be to return to a sugar&fat free diet when I've regained the weight I'd lost.

Another one who loses weight easily ,due to stress usually, I go up and down like a yo yo, so I am not worried by it
I have never weighed much more than 8 stone, but last summer went up to 9, now down to just under 8, but had quite a lot of stress and worry recently
If its unusual for you I would go and have a check up, but I do see a lot of older people who seem to lose weight as they age, for no apparent reason, but are quite healthy
