I can't believe I've started with a cold just days before my son and his family are due to arrive and we have visitors coming tomorrow for the night too angry . I've been told I shouldn't take cold and flu remedies or aspirin as I'm on blood thinning meds so does anyone have any helpful tips to ease the running nose? I'm loading up with vitamin C and paracetamols. I'm worried about blowing my nose too much as I suffer with nosebleeds and am terrified I set one off as cuts and grazes just keep oozing blood for ages!

Can't really suggest anything but what you are already found, I'm on blood thinners too. I do take drink ginger and lemon tea with a little honey in when I've got cold but think this is probably more of a comfort than a cure.

Think I’d ask a pharmacist willow, there must be something to make you feel more comfortable. Hope you can banish the bugs.

DH is on meds for high blood pressure and, after checking with doc/chemist can take Day Nurse but not Night Nurse.

Blood thinners are different from BP medication. I’d do as cornergran suggests and ask a pharmacist.

My suggestion is a juice with freshly squeezed oranges, carrots, celery, beetroot, an apple and about an inch or more of fresh ginger. You need the ginger to give you a hit in your throat, you will know what I mean when you drink it. Don't store any leftovers in the fridge for more than a few hours.

I make this as a preventative and also relief from colds. Seems to work for my family.

I know this thread is older, but there's no reason why someone on warfarin can't take paracetamol for cold symptoms unless they have another specific contraindication to taking paracetamol. Nobody should be using aspirin for anything except maybe heart attack and stroke prevention when prescribed by a doctor.
