Pulsative Tinnitus

My 35 year old daughter has had this for years. It is much worse when she is stressed. She always has music or the TV on in the house to try and drown it out.

Yes; I'm making sure I have the tv on all the time; I could never get to sleep with a clock ticking in the room, but I'm now sleeping with the clock on my pillow as it's better than hearing this constant whooshing!

I have a whooshing sound in my right ear when i turn my head to the left it seems to be in time with my pulse. It does not bother me as it's not constant but hubby says i should get it checked out.

You poor thing - it must drive you nuts! x

Yes I have this intermittently, most of the time it's buzzing, but changes to pulsating, don't know which is worse to be honest, it does make a change.I try and keep busy, with the TV or music on, then I usually forget about it for a while at least.Hope you get relief soon .

I've also suffered from tinnitus since I was a child only in one ear at first but now in both. Extremely annoying and since I've had this flu virus it is a lot louder and sounds like I can hear a washing machine all the time. My doctor says it's just something I have to live with as there is no cure but a friend tells me some surgeries have tinnitus clinics which I'd had never heard of but will investigate.

I'm sorry that you have this condition. My aunt used to have tinnitus, but I never tealised how intrusive it can be. Just recently I have had what I can only describe as 'white noise' in my ears at times. It doesn't seem to be there all the time, but is worse after I have used my electric toothbrush. I haven't mentioned it to anyone, but as I have a Dr's appointment on Wed, I think I will mention it then.

I have had pulsating tinnitus for 12 years+. I have been checked out by an audiologist and given strategies to acclimatise myself to the noise. As years have gone by I have accepted the noise and go for days without thinking about it.

Here are my strategies.

You can buy devices from the Deaf Association which emit a
variety of sounds. You just switch it on at night with ear
phones in and choose the noise you want such as the sea, white noise etc. My favourite was the sound of a steam
train. In the daytime when I have a rest I plug into my I-pad and go onto YouTube music and type in relaxation or
meditation and choose what I want. I have radios in every
room so I can have music on quietly.

Do not be tempted to drown out the tinnitus always be just below the sound.

There are tinnitus associations all round the country. Initially I phoned one of their counsellors which really helped me.

I have had pulsative tinnitus in my left ear for many years. I had a scan to check it was nothing serious, which it wasn't. I have a high pitched "electrical" whine constantly, but I am so used to it now I can't say it bothers me too much. I did find it very annoying at first.

Another sufferer here. Not pulsating just the really high pitch whistling noise plus a bit of whooshing when I turn my head. Annoying isn't it

I don't have the pulsating sort, that must be really annoying! My tinnitus is a constant shh... like white noise with the very occasional high pitched whistle. Some days it's louder and more intrusive than others. I have been known to tell my DH that "my ears are loud today". ?

Me too Hilda. Exactly the same. I’ve always had it and thought it was normal. And I say the same thing to my DH!

I had a scan when one ear turned on extra loud as apparently that can be a sign of a tumour, but all was well. What they did find was that some of the canals were rather narrow and thought that may be a cause. It’s really annoying when other people are listening to the silence and I can’t.
