Help. I seem to be more aware of this recently. Not sure why but when quietly reading or falling asleep I hear hissing and roaring. Anyone else have this?

Valerie if you can get your ears suctioned instead of syringed with water I would recommend it. It took me a number of months for my hearing in one ear to settle down after syringing. It is of course your choice.

NanKate never heard of this method, can it be done at the Drs by the nurse, who usually does the syringing,
I will ask about it though, thank you

Have you had your B12 levels checked? There's a link between Pernicious Anaemia/B12 deficiency and tinnitus.

Hi, Farview I've been trying to notice my tinnitus whilst out, funny thing is my worst ear sounds quiet when out, and I can hear my right ear more, that's why I'm thinking it's worse at home, no explanation for it can't understand it myself.

Mine is at its worst in the sitting room. I’m suspicious of all the electrical stuff in there. The tv, wireless router, main phone sending signals to the extensions, digital radio. They must make a difference.

Val not sure if stemetil is a travel sickness tablet which coukd help vertigo but the usual meds are betahistine or serc. Best ask your gp. Betahistine has helped me. Wish I had taken it years ago when it was first suggested.
You have to take them every day as a preventative rather than when you get an attack. In that case buccastem tablets are put under the gums to stop the feeling of nausea and vomiting. There is also an injection which works very quickly, good luck hope you get some help.

Soon after I moved into this house 10 years ago, wh3n in bed I heard what sounds like the pipes filling up. I would wander round the house checking for a tap left on or dripping, but couldn’t track it down, I even web
Nt outside in the early hours trying to trace it an£ only after about a year realized it was tinnitus. Luckily so far I only get it p at night in bec, I lie on my side, one ear hears ny heart beating - disconcerting as I recently developedheart block which means there is a pause 3very so often vefore it starts again, the other ear hears the pipe filling up noise - but my listening to the radio (world service) with an ear phone in that ear I can get to sleep (unless it is a sports programne on).

I have had tinnitus as long as I can remember..I am sure not as a child but no idea when it began...probably after one too many rock concerts. I generally don't find it too annoying, like top speed spin on a washing machine. I don't hear well in places with background noise and I know I often rely on lip reading.

My H suffers with tinnitus and has been told that no hearing aid would help it and that, in time, he would get used to it and mentally block it out. This was some years ago, but since then he has had palpitations and an irregular heartbeat, which has been investigated and nothing untoward has shown up. I'm wondering now if the two are connected.

I'm going for ear wax suctioning on Friday. The tinnitus is much worse since I got a cold and my right eustachian tube was and remains blocked. Just hope things improve before my big op next week.

I've had Tinnitus for about 11 years now, and I'm used to it. I only notice the hissing and humming when everywhere is quiet.

My ears have been looked at, and there is nothing physically wrong - no wax or anything.

Well went for ear syringing, nurse said Dr had to be consulted first, he came in and said it needs more softening,in the right ear, wouldnt do it, as apparently 2 patients had ended up in hospital with burst ear drums, so had another 2 weeks of otex or olive oil, have to go again next monday, nurse did the left ear as not as bad, that is now clear, but still deaf in the right one, hopefully will have softened enough by then
I had to go to the hospital once and have it poked out with a hook
They dont do the suction thing
The tinnitus in this deaf ear is horrendous, sometimes sounds like running tap,i have got up more than once to check if i have left a tap running
