Well today's the day. My second knee replacement op. It's an awful thought knowing what the recovery will be like. I was very sick in hospital last time due to the pain meds. Just lost days.
Will pack this morning and prepare the house. Just looking at all the necessary stuff is depressing. At my pre op visit I was shocked at how anxious I felt just going through those doors.
Oh well. Needs must. Onwards!

I also had one knee done 2yrs ago and will need the other one done before long. I had the epidural which they told me does not have those sicky side effects in the same way as a general anaesthetic. So when my next one needs doing that's what I shall ask for.

Good luck. If it's any comfort, my late MIL had both her knees done. After the first she said she would never have the second done as the first had been so awful. But she had the second one done and it was completely different and so much better than the first. So think positive.

I too have had one knee replaced and the other is letting me know it won't be long before it needs doing as well. The worst thing about the operation for me was the spinal anaesthetic and loss of control of my bladder for a while. Apart from that, aftercare from my other half was much needed.

There are some good anti sickness meds available these days; I had some after my recent surgery and they were a God send!
All the best for a swift recovery ?

Good luck for the op. My mum had it done when she was 85 and it was more arduous than her hip but the relief from pain made it worthwhile.

Make sure you tell everyone about the previous sickness, so they can make changes to help you. flowers

good luck jane - i know exactly how you feel as i've got my second knee replacement op coming in 5 weeks. the last one went well 9 years ago but i'm still anxious about this one.
hope to have an update from you to let us all know how the op and the hospital stay went. i'm sure you'll be fine - and knowing that you'll soon be able to walk without pain is a bonus.

Good luck, I know it feels worse the second time round but it does mean you can discuss how sick the medications made you last time with the doctors so they can adjust or change your meds.

Jane10 Thu 28-Jun-18 08:53:10

Thank you all for your kind wishes. I suppose I wanted to write down my feelings. It's hard for the family to understand although DH was wonderful last time I think he sort of feels 'oh God. Not again!'
