Heart Bypass Surgery

Yup. I know about this annie. My DH had a triple heart bypass in his early 50s. I too was terrified. I felt sure he wouldn't make it but he's fine. There were people in the ward with him who were in their 70s and 80s having the same surgery and they were up and about in days. I am sure the procedure has been simplified as it is now 18 plus years since my DH had his.

Just a thought, I do know from your previous posts why you are no longer in touch but is it worth trying to make contact again now. Perhaps just a card to wish her well. I hope everything goes well for her.

I did send a text to her daughter saying I was here for them as I have always been, no reply. My poor niece, her daughter had a baby two months ago, she is type 1 diabetic , has been having back outs since she had the baby, I only learned of this today. This is a lot for my niece to cope with, she is not strong.

My friends H had a triple by-pass 3 years ago at the age of 79, he was out in 5 days and apart from feeling tired for a few weeks, he has never looked back.
He still decorates and gardens and recently he and his wife celebrated their Diamond wedding with a house party in a large hired house for over 20 relatives.
No-one one would be blase enough to say it is a routine operation, but it is far more common than it was and the surgeons are hugely skilled.

My aunt had a triple bypass at Papworth some twenty years ago, when she was 73. It all went well and she has had another very happy twenty years of life.

Well, I have to go one better, and say my work colleagues husband had a quadruple bypass.
He too, made a full recovery, and is still well, 20 years later.

My DF had a quadruple bypass in 2015 at the age of 83 and in poor health, and I researched it a lot! There are so many pre op supporting procedures now and it's quite reassuring/fascinating/wonderful how the operation has progressed in recent years. A spell in ICU is absolutely the norm, but it's expected that the patient will fully recover and have a better quality of life, and indeed an extended life expectancy.

I will echo what others said have said. My mother had a quintuple bypass at 77, followed by a pacemaker about 5 years later and she is still going, 20 years on. Best wishes for your sister, Anniebach and for your DH, Eloethan.

My husband has had two major heart operations...aortic valve replacement and heart bypass in 1999 at age 47. Made a complete recovery returned to full time work and joined the gym...joining a sspinning class. Three years ago he had to have the valve replacement procedure repeated and another by pass. Again made a full recovery and again still attends a spinning class at the gym. Also cycles walks and enjoys a full and active life. I know it's a worrying time for you and your sister and anyone else undergoing this pricedure. But please be reassured this surgery is for the best and will give your sister a much better quality of life. Please give her my best wishes. Also to your husband Eloethan. My best friend has just had a triple bypass. Four weeks after surgery she is almost back to normal. Another friend had the same operation and it was transformational.

Nothing to be fearful about. It is routine surgery and rarely has an unsuccessful outcome.

After my sisters third heart attack they said her heart was damaged

I am surprised they did not do bypass surgery earlier.

They have taken a long time haven’t they? She has had stents procedure twice

My SIL had a quadruple by pass over 30 years ago - she's now 85 and going strong!

Have heard my sister had a triple by pass on Tuesday, she is off the ventilator, I hope she will be alright now.

Hope and pray so Maw, it has been troubling not being able to ask if she had the op and if so how it went , she sent a text to her God-daughter last night, she is the wife of my son in law who isn’t! Come to think of it his first wife, my younger daughter is her God-daughter too

I can only echo what others have said. I know a number of people who've had variations of the bypass op theme and for all of them, it's been absolutely life-enhancing.

two of my OH's friends had triple bypass surgery ,neither was a candidate for heart problems ,well not from looking at them .Both fit, healthy ,non drinkers or smokers .One has gone back to his high security job as a bodyguard and the other has decided that he will semi retire and enjoy life rather than work as much as he was before .Both are fit as fleas though they have to take medication for life

My father had a triple by-pass about 8 years ago. He is in his late 80s now and seems to be physically well now.
