I should stop posting from my phone! That should read 'It is high for you'

Soi.ds high for you. I suggest you call 111 they will either comfort you or tell you you need to see a GP today in which case you can call your surgery and tell them you need an urgent appointment. I also have low BP and it would worry me if it suddenly went up

I'm with the 'dont take it' camp as it stresses me out so much. When I was having panic attacks earlier this year, it was sky high at home. I went to GP with stress but asked him not to take my BP as it stresses me out. He simply said OK.

15 years ago when I was first put on BP medication, my BP was 208/110. My GP didn't bat an eyelid, sent me home to 'rest' for a week, saw me again and put me on medication. Mine always soars when I have it taken but they don't seem concerned.

Thanks for all the eminently sensible advice - I suppose the problem for me is that, prior to all this, my GP was debating whether my lifelong LOW BP needed treating! So this has come as a bit of a bolt out of the blue. If I felt well, I would not be concerned - but I don't, which is why I took it in the first place, fully expecting that it would be on my boots as usual.

Since the AF episode (which I was jot particularly worried about) I have felt out of breath and just not quite right.

I'm a long life sufferer of high bp so I wouldn't think your 155 is worryingly high, unusual in your case but not emergency. I find that when my is higher than usual I end up stressing and putting it higher still. So in those circumstances I actually avoid taking it. If you are worried and can't wait till next week see if you can be seen by the practice nurse.

What was the diastolic?

Willow500 Mon 12-Nov-18 20:25:56

Are you able to see the practice nurse to get it taken at the surgery - she would know whether you should see the doctor urgently. I don't think you should wait until next week to get it checked out properly.

Mine goes higher the more I think about it. I actually avoid taking it now as it stresses me out. The GP gave me a chart to complete and work out the average morning and evening over a week. They only treat if over 150/90 on average.
Elegran gave me good advice. Fit the cuff then read quietly for 10 minutes or so then switch on the machine. That helped me.
Also alternate arms.
I know your situation is different and affected by meds but try Elegran's method if only to try to ease your mind while you wait for a GP appointment. Good luck.

chest infection perhaps?
I think you should go to see your GP just to be sure

Jalima1108 Mon 12-Nov-18 20:03:17

Could you have an infection?
That can cause your BP to fluctuate

I have had a lifetime of low BP.

I have been on 10mg of propranalol for a long time to prevent migraines. As some of you may know from my previous thread I went into AF mid-October and was put on bisoprolol. It made me very depressed, so GP said to stop it.

I have felt unwell since the AF bout - out of breath, cough at night etc.

Today I felt much worse and took my BP, thinking it would be low as usual, but the systolic was 178! I took half a propranalol in the end as it was persistently high and for a while it went down; but it is now up to 155 - so unusual for me.

I have made an appointment online with GP - but can't get one till next Monday.

Could someone with experience of high BP suggest whether I need to see someone sooner - it seems to be haywire and fluctuating about.

I didn't need this. OH with PD was a doc, but he is now no use in these situations.
