Poorly tummy

I sent myself home from work yesterday with a very poorly tummy. Cramping pains and feeling very nauseous. I fully expected to be back up and running today but am still feeling very sorry for myself . I can’t remember the last time I had to take time off work (due to sickness) and although I hate my job with a passion I feel very guilty about not being there and not being able to see to the children either. I have barely managed to drag myself out of bed today . I will have to crawl there tomorrow if I’m no better as I have so much to do. I wonder if there’s a tummy bug going around ? Anyway GN has kept me company . smile

I hope your better soongillybob I’ve had tummy troubles for a while and carried on regardless and ended up in hospital with a very bad infection. Intravenous antibiotics have helped but if I’d have left it much longer they said I’d have been in real trouble. So please look after yourself and lots of fluids. pudding my DiL still posts and shops on line and she is that ill, in fact this kind of activity can be just the distraction you need when ill.

I have soda water handy for the most awful wind I get. It's got to be the medication I take along with the anxiety of " just in case "-------it's horrible. I daren't stand for long talking to someone as I can feel it brewing.
Thank God I'm not a public speaker that's all I can say.

As many already know I spend a lot of time on GN as I’m really very lonely at work pudding . Spending 5 days a week on your own waiting for the phone to ring is no fun . Wish I could watch TV but we do not have a licence .

Anyway I never said I was dying did I ? Just a tummy bug that I can’t seem to shake off . I’m rarely ever ill ( with the exception of the dreaded MS that sometimes knocks me for 6) and I hardly ever stay off work .

Sorry - that should have been pudding! Blonde moment grin

omg Pudding - you must be bored and looking for a flame war! :D

Willow10 Thu 29-Nov-18 12:05:00

Wow - really sodapop? confused

sodapop Thu 29-Nov-18 12:01:44

Bit harsh Pudding I would think its a relief to sit down and take your mind off things with GN.

Pudding123 Thu 29-Nov-18 11:58:47

This probably won't go down well but if you are well enough to think about posting on gran s net to my mind you are not that ill

Tummy bugs are the pits, wishing you a speed recovery gilly. I find that in the run up to Christmas the nasty bugs seem to increase and it is a real nuisance as it is the busiest time of the year.

sandelf Thu 29-Nov-18 11:38:21

Same as Willow 10 - and hands - wash EVERY time you come home. Seems to help me keep clear. Minimise the hug and kiss routine too. People don't think.

gillybob Thu 29-Nov-18 11:37:17

Thank you all for your kind comments . Sadly I have had no choice but to come into work today . I’m not staying all day but if I hadn’t come in the lads wouldn’t get paid and somehow I don’t think they would be very understanding . It’s hard to stay off work when you have your own business and people relying on only you . I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy .

Gillybob,as others have said, look after yourself, dont think about work, stay at home until really better, drink plenty and just take care of yourself. Sending hugs.

Oh and a vaccine for noro is under development. Can't come soon enough!!

ReadyMeals Thu 29-Nov-18 11:23:24

I believe there is also adenovirus going around which can cause enteritis symptoms.

Luckygirl Very sensible of you and your daughter. This is the time of year when hospitals start to see an increase of people suffering from associated with winter ailments. I recall November December 2017, myself 'holed up' at home with a chest infection, the media showing hospitals unable to cope with the surge of people suffering ailments not uncommon with that time of year.So isn't it up to ourselves to accept responsibility and if it means taking time off work, keeping children off school, isolating ourselves from others therefor preventing the passing on of our ailments, so be it.

Gillybob, I’m sorry you are feeling so poorly, and hope you feel better soon.
But, it drives me nuts when I hear someone say they will HAVE to go to work though not better, because .....!
It’s so selfish, as are those who cough and splutter all over the place, sneezing without any attempt to put a hand in front of their mouth. Germs are so easily spread and there are those who are so vulnerable in the firing line! My beloved battled Multiple Myeloma for 6 years, the disease and the treatment massively impaired his immune system, and he would catch something so easily. Just a cold or minor bug would result with him being rushed into Oncology with Sepsis.
Two years ago my darling 6 month old Grandaughter caught a cold/bug and was too tiny to fight it off. She spent several days in the ITU with bilateral pneumonia and only just pulled through. Many tiny babies in that state don’t!
Please please think very carefully before risking others health because you ‘have so much to do’!
Ok, rant over!

DGS 1 gave me norovirus about 5 years ago. The sickness etc didn't last long, but felt very weedy for several days after. Oddly, only my son-in-law and I got it, other family members escaped.
Be kind to yourself, gillybob.

TellNo1Ok Thu 29-Nov-18 11:02:15

Daughter who works as crew on major airline was recently "passengered" home from Los Angeles with norovirus .... the vomiting had stopped but the feeling ill continued ... she was unwell for about 5 days ...

missdeke Thu 29-Nov-18 10:59:30

If it's a tummy bug absolutely do not drag yourself into work, especially if you are in contact with children. There would be an awful lot of unhappy parents around should you spread anything to their offspring just before Christmas!!!

PS I hope you feel better soon.

Willow10 Thu 29-Nov-18 10:48:43

Gilly - I'm putting my 'mum' hat on here! It's very noble to be so conscientious about work, but you are ill - it happens. Just take some time off to look after yourself and make sure you are fully recovered before going back. No-one is indispensable and your health should come first. Stop worrying, settle down with a duvet, hot drink, tv, book, whatever and make the most of some me time. Lecture over - hope you feel better soon! flowers

kittylester Wed 28-Nov-18 17:43:45

What every one else said gilly. Not much good having time off work if you are too ill to enjoy it. Take it easy and maybe send your self home earlier tomorrow?

Auntieflo Wed 28-Nov-18 17:33:40

Sympathies Gillybob. My tum was really upset from very early Tues morning. I slept all day, didn’t even hear the window cleaner clattering over the garage roof. I have been up today, but no energy. I had thought it was related to a new prescription drug, but probably now think it was a bug.
Don’t rush back ‘to that place’ if you are still under the weather. Take care and get well soon,

sodapop Wed 28-Nov-18 17:27:35

Sorry you feel so sick Gillybob it's miserable isn't it ? Keep warm and drink plenty of clear fluids, get well for the mince pie season thanks

Cherrytree59 Wed 28-Nov-18 17:10:15

Oh dear gilly My daughter has just recovered from the Norvovirus.
Thankfully we were able to contain it by having DGC to stay at our house.

One of the worst symptoms according to
my daughter was the dreadful tummy cramps.

Little grandson now under the weather, nursery has got 4 off with chickenpox, he and his brother had chickenpox last year but I know that it can hit more than once. (I had it twice!)

Hopefully it is just a 48 hour virus gilly
Look after yourself keep warm.

It’s all just such a waste of time when you have precious little of it anyway. Grrrrrr.
