Anyone else got the lurgy?

Just out of the steamy bathroom trying to breathe. Head banging like a drum and I have to drive back from Scotland homewards in a few hours. Hoping for a better night. Last night was spent resting my head on the window bottom in the cold trying to get the mucosa to shrink.

CH in the bath coughing in Olympic proportions. Minor inconvenience knowing what a lot of gransnetters' are suffering with but I (rather selfishly) do not want my MRI cancelled again this week.

Felt much better this morning after 3 days of night nurse , cleaned house , ate a hearty breakfast then sat down to plan my New Year lunch .... started shivering , had to run to the toilet with the skits . Spent the rest of the day in bed with electric blanket on . Up now and feeling as right as rain !
All very strange .. will have New Years dinner tomorrow !

DH and I got the lurgy on 16 th Dec. We are just about back to normal A bit tired at times but getting there

My turn now. ☹️ Nasal spray (Otrivine) is good for night- time emergency. Not to be depended on for beyond three nights in a row, but I find it works well. Day Nurse medicine good for the days. Strepsils and Halls usually help with cough, but I'm not at that stage yet....

Anyway, wishing you all the very best possible 2019.

Grandchildren are bad for your health. After a month of wiping snotty noses I am now wiping mine...or did I catch it from you lot?
Sent DH out for honey and he came back with golden syrup (forgot his glasses!)confused

I've managed the hat trick! tchsad

I had the cough/cold lurgy in October. Just about got over that and then went down with the stomach bug. Now I've got the original lurgy again. Not a good start to the New Year!!

Visiting GCs should carry a government health warning! tchgrin

Another one with a relapse. Felt improved yesterday, awake all night and now back to banging head plus dizziness and nausea. Ah well .....

EllanVannin Wed 02-Jan-19 11:16:50

I was beginning to feel okay last weekend but not so good again this morning finding it an effort to move about and feel as though I could sleep for a week.
I'm pretty restricted in what I can take because of being on warfarin. It's a bind !

Still laid on couch! Just as well Jane Eyre on TV this afternoon! Get well all

Buffybee Wed 02-Jan-19 12:29:49

Thank goodness someone mentioned Day and Night Nurse. Coming out the other side now but this medication has been a life saver.
Have done nothing really for four days. Living in jogging bottoms and big, comfy dressing gown.
Just hope I don't get the relapse now!
Sending best wishes to everyone still full Lurginess! ?

Izabella Wed 02-Jan-19 13:22:48

Ah Jane Eyre, Yes Thanks for that. Will record though as still in falling asleep mode a lot of the time.

Out of interest - those with the lurgy did you, or did you not, have the 'flu vaccine?

Hi, we are both getting over the lurgy here, Dh a lot worse than me, he is still coughing after 3 weeks, my cough has gone, but I have zero energy! While he seems fine, I just have no energy or enthusiasm to do anything. We went out for a walk this morning, thinking it might help, but it's just made me more tired. Suppose I'll just have to go with it for now.We both had the flu jab, but it wasn't flu we've had, it wasn't bad enough.Just a strange virus.

farview Wed 02-Jan-19 17:27:21

Yes Riverwalk I had the flu jab...had I not I would have sworn this was flu...had flu once in 1979 living in South Africa and to me...this lurgy felt pretty similar...

BBbevan Thu 03-Jan-19 11:48:55

We had the flu jab in October. This was not flu but a heavy, energy sapping cold. Nearly better now after 3 weeks .

Izabella Thu 03-Jan-19 11:55:41

Riverwalk yes I did but now diagnosed as a bacterial infection and on antibiotics

Bring on the live yogurt

Sorry for resurrecting this thread...are you all ok now? Am a lot better except for the horrible productive cough.. aching with it...sounds awful.. thinking may need to see the doctor..anyone else found that their cough is lingering?

BBbevan Sun 13-Jan-19 11:38:15

Still got a cough 4 weeks on . Otherwise we are both fine

farview Sun 13-Jan-19 11:41:21

Thanks BBbevan so maybe it's just part for the course with this particular lurgy...hope your cough soon disappears..

Izabella Sun 13-Jan-19 11:44:07

Still lingering here ...............

Blinko Sun 13-Jan-19 11:52:20

Had the lurgy before Christmas (upthread), then three weeks of catarrh, then last week sickness and diahorrhea (sp?) and now the lurgy is back. Great!

farview Sun 13-Jan-19 12:14:49

Oh no...it's a real lingerer then ?

Jessity Sun 13-Jan-19 14:20:59

Lingering for me too, totally fed up with the dratted bug. I had the flu jab but this was different, heavy cold, hacking cough and this never ending zero energy

EllanVannin Sun 13-Jan-19 14:28:14

I too had the 'flu jab and this was the second Christmas that I was ill ! It does make you think, though it's never happened before. I'm fine through the year, cold-free until the winter after my jab ?
Makes me wonder if I should give it a miss this year just to see what happens.

I still get the dizzy/unbalanced sensation ?

EllanVannin Sun 13-Jan-19 14:30:10

I wonder how many of those poor souls who died had their 'flu-jab ? Scary.

farview Sun 13-Jan-19 22:23:58

EllanVannin..
I actually think that I agree with you...this has been my 3rd flu jab 2018...and within weeks have actually been really poorly... decision made am not having it again....I've always reacted badly to all sorts of medication..I have had flu once and it is horrendous...but the coincidence now of having flu jab three times and ending up feeling really ill...think NO..will see what happens next year without it...I know that people will shout me down but I have a weakened immune system and I do feel the flu jab is bad for me..
