I have has psoriasis for over 50 years.

A lot of it is trial an error - for example many people rave about E45 cream - but it makes my psoriasis worse! There are 3 creams that I have found that worked well.
- Body Shop Olive oil body butter - this is the best when my skin is really dry
- Weleda Sensitive Almond Oil body lotion
- Oilatum Cream

Hope you find something that works well for you

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I will investigate. Have just seen on Amazon Italy that there is an E45 lotion with evening Primrose oil: I might try that. I did find the E45 lotion for very dry skin very soothing and moisturising but have finished it and Amazon Italy charge E30 for it. More than the prescribed cream from my dermatologist.

My daughter finds Aveena the oat based mixture helps her little boy with his dry skin.

I have a problem with eczema and I find it is helped by lavender oil and chamomile oil mixed in evening primrose oil. All natural ingredients.

I have found Sharkilage capsules have cleared a lot of my full-body psoriasis.
Not sure if they are available in Italy though.
Are you allowed, legally, to import natural remedies?

Look on this page:
www.europages.co.uk/companies/Italy/medicinal%20plant.html

Many plants which are helpful for skin, can be steeped in warm olive oil to release their own essential oils and then used as a balm.
I used to use olive oil and alo vera and that was quite soothing.
I use Sorbolene but of course I get it from my GP.

If you go here and click on the names of the researchers, Laura Coassini and Lokar LivioPoldini, their details come up. Perhaps if you contact them, they can tell you what herbs are best to use as a basis for a balm.

Not sure about creams as everyone with psoriasis seems to get good results using different things, but coal tar soap made a huge difference to DD when washing hands and in the shower.

I've found vaseline helps - and it is cheap.

mumofmadboys I am seeing a dermatologist. I have to pay for these visits too. At E80 a visit, it's no joke.

tanith Here in Italy, these creams are not covered by health care.

Do you pay for your scripts? If so a pre payment certificate may be worthwhile. I would advise seeing your GP and explaining how quickly you get through the creams. If it is bad it may be worth seeing a dermatologist.

Could you not ask your GP for something on prescription?

Am taking medication for this but the soothing creams prescribed are all so expensive and quite disappointing. Nor do they last more than a few days as I must cover a large area of skin twice a day. I just cannot afford them.

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive home remedy that is soothing and nourishing?

I have tried bathing with oats but it didn't help.
