Shivering

Does anyone else get the shivers? This has happened 5 times in the last few months. In the evening, in a warm house I start shivering like mad and I feel icy cold. A blanket doesn't help, so I go to bed early then sleep for about ten hours. Next day I'm as right as rain.. No idea what causes it. It seems a strange thing to see a doctor about.

No sorry I’ve never experienced shivering accept when I have a fever.
Could it be your immune system is trying to fight off some virus, especially as you seem to be sleeping longer as a result.
Take honey in any form twice a day to help ward off the lurgy!!
Hope this passes ?

I get very cold prior to getting a migraine. Last nightIi had thick socks on in bed. Wrapped a throw around my shoulders whilst sat in bed reading, then moved it to my back as that felt as though it was in a draught. Woke up fine. About 3.30 this afternoon migraine arrived!
I think its to do with the blood vessels constricting.
Are you a migraine sufferer mrsmopp?

I wonder if it's low blood sugar? This can cause shivering, as can a number of other things. The fact that you also sleep long hours afterwards seems to point to that.

Try taking something sweet next time you shiver but do see your doctor, it is certainly not too slight a thing to ask your GP about.

I experience similar, my mum does too - Even in summer months - She calls it " night air " smile Both of us are sensitive to weather changes -

Vonners, as another migraineur, the idea of these shivers being a precursor to migraine rings very true. I have evenings when I feel bone weary for no reason, and I am so tired and exhausted I can barely make it up the stairs to bed. Like mrsmopp I then sleep heavily for longer than usual and wake feeling drugged. Sure enough by lunch time the migraine is there.

Mrsmopp you do not mention a headache but if you feels a bit spaced out during the following day it could be a headacheless migraine. They do exist and I have had them.

Could possibly be your thyroïd beginning to tire. Ask your GP to check this- feeling cold is one of the effects of being hypothyroïd.

It happened once to me - I was pregnant, in the tropics and had two doctors with me (sister and her then husband) who had no explanation. After a night with blankets and hot water bottles I was fine and it never happened again - in 47 years!

I have been on thyroxin tablets for 20 years, I never thought it could be connected to that. I think I'll see how it goes and if I get another episode I will definitely see the doc.
I appreciate your replies, many thanks.
