Hello everyone...

SalsaQueen Thu 11-Jul-19 17:53:15

Doodle. I really do care for the people at the club. I ring them when they're not well (I live the other side of town but I've visited a few of them), run errands for them - I was in Wilko today, buying pull-up incontinence pads for one of the ladies, and I hoped nobody thought they were for me!

Annie - any news/results? Or won't you know yet?

nanny a new kitty? smile

nanny2507 Thu 11-Jul-19 16:29:13

hello my lovely friends how is everyone. annie any results yet? I have been very flat lately but I have my home check for the lovely Mabel on Saturday and after a discussion with my (nearly) 3 year old GD we have decided that if i pass when she comes home she will be called Coco. Today i cleaned out what i call my cupboard under the stairs (i live in a bungalow grin ) its only taken 2 years! xx

Good idea Doodle publicity why not need more of it in these situations..
hope every one is having a good day.
Hi Annie how’s are you with your pain? Hopefully it’s easier today ? ?

Nonnie Thu 11-Jul-19 10:15:13

A small thing but I have started making buns with yeast ready for a family visit. I do it when I can't motivate myself to do the things I should be doing and find it quite therapeutic. Good think we have a freezer.

Good luck Annie with result of your granddaughter’s interviews.

I had a day of painful back spasms today and was resting in bed to try and calm them down.

Everyone have a calm Thursday ???

Anniebach Wed 10-Jul-19 22:26:41

Sorry not joined you, was coming on this evening, elder granddaughter needed me, she has several interviews and needed to discuss them

Doodle Wed 10-Jul-19 20:52:01

I think you are a very kind person salsa and it will be a loss to the old people. I wonder if they realise how much you worry about them.

SalsaQueen Wed 10-Jul-19 20:40:13

Doodle The elderly people haven't yet been told about the situation. I've got a meeting with the Treasurer and the Trustees (they have never been of any use but they've scheduled a meeting in 2 weeks' time), so we'll see what is discussed and if anyone can come up with any ideas. It would help a little if we didn't have to pay £75 per week to rent the place on Friday, but that money goes to the church (they are not involved in the club, have no wish to be).

I could contact the local newspapers, and I could ask the elderly people if they'd be willing to pay more each week - I can't for one minute think they would - only a few weeks ago, there was a huge fuss made because 2 people reckoned they had been overcharged by 50p(!) each week for months (they hadn't).

I will certainly be able to find other work - I've got years of experience in clerical and managerial positions.

I'm still hoping the club can somehow continue somehow.

Doodle Wed 10-Jul-19 20:20:59

salsa this seems so sad. Are the people who attend aware that the service will end? I know everyone doesn’t want to pay more but if it means keeping the service going would they consider it? I still think a newspaper might help. I appreciate your treasurer writing letters but perhaps if the companies thought they might get some publicity they might cough up more. Even if you don’t get more money and do have to close I do think all you have done deserves a mention in the local paper anyway. Good luck to you.

Joce345 Wed 10-Jul-19 18:20:04

Evenings all how is everyone today?

Nonnie Wed 10-Jul-19 16:49:00

Sorry to hear that Salsa, for you and all those affected. Hope you find something almost as rewarding to do.

nanny2507 Wed 10-Jul-19 07:49:58

good morning all. I,m sorry about your club salsa its very sad.

annie any results yet?

Hope everyone is ok. xx

Anniebach Tue 09-Jul-19 22:11:00

Hi all x

Salsa, I am so sorry, I remember you spoke of the club and it’s so sad it has to close x

I woke earlier than usual this morning, could not get back to
sleep. Had therapy this morning which I do find tiring.

Look forward to relaxing in bed , I signed for Amazon audio
books and if anyone watches Gogglebox they will know who I am talking about, Giles and Mary’s diary , love it, they are so eccentric ?

Doodle... we have an excellent Treasurer who send off letters all the time, to companies, asking for donations. Last year we had £6k from Boots, £3k from National Lottery, plus other bits and bobs. Last August we had £20k in the bank, but with all we have to pay out (food, entertainment, transport, room hire), the money is down to about £4k. It's a registered charity, so we aren't allowed to make any profit.

Part of the problem is that the cost to each elderly person has been low (£13 for door-to-door transport, a cooked meal, dessert, raffle, entertainment, birthday presents, trips, etc) and they have always been against the idea of having to pay more. It's sad, as a few of them live alone and don't go out or see anyone.

It'll mean Jobseeker's allowance for me, as I've got 6 years until I get a state pension...........

Doodle Tue 09-Jul-19 20:19:18

salsa is it worth contacting the local paper for an article to see if some local funding could be found. It seems a very worthy cause.

Joce345 Tue 09-Jul-19 15:09:43

Aww no salsa that is s sad, for you and the people that enjoy it, nothing safe anymore is it. It seems it more the older generation that suffer all round when it comes to cut back. That’s so sad..

SalsaQueen Tue 09-Jul-19 10:57:28

Hello all. Hope everyone is as well as can be. It's a strange morning - grey and still, here where I am. I've just been told that the job I've loved for the past 2 years is going to finish in September. It's Tuesday afternoons and all day Friday, running a small club for elderly people. The funds are low (I don't deal with the finances), and so at the age of 60, I'll be faced with the prospect of searching for jobs/attending interviws etc.

More than that, the 24 people who have enjoyed the company, the entertainment and just being out of the house, will have to look for somewhere else to go. It's a shame.

Joce345 Tue 09-Jul-19 09:45:04

Morning all how is everyone? It does seem to be quiet this last few day, hope all is well in the black dog world, as well has it can be..
more Annie did you get some sleep, hopefully you did..

Anniebach Mon 08-Jul-19 22:05:58

nonnie knee and hip too painful to try , but thank you, I will when they sort out the knee problem x

Joce345 Mon 08-Jul-19 22:03:03

Wishing everyone a peaceful nights sleep ?
Annie hope you are ok x

Nonnie Mon 08-Jul-19 12:16:07

nanny go for it, you can never love too much!

annie so glad you had a good time with your daughter. Can you now bring yourself to open the front door and go out for absolutely no reason? Now that you have been forced to do and succeeded it would be good to simply take a baby step each day, knowing that you will cope.

SparklyGrandma Mon 08-Jul-19 09:58:08

I hate waiting for results - I am hoping that they help you with something if you need further tests Annie?

Slept most of yesterday after long trip last week. Right hip achey but slowly getting ready to go out today.....

SalsaQueen Mon 08-Jul-19 08:45:28

* Nanny * I hope you manage to give the little cat a loving home. I had 2 cats already when my Mr Cooper needed help (he was feral). I took him in and he's been the best cat I've ever known smile. If/when Tank returns, you'll love all your cats.

SalsaQueen Mon 08-Jul-19 08:42:45

Annie Glad you had a lovely time with your daughter. The anxiety you feel about possibly having to go to the hospital 20 miles away may be unfounded. Perhaps you won't need to go? I hope that's the case.

Joce345 Sun 07-Jul-19 23:01:22

So happy your time with your daughter was happy Annie x
