It's raining here, so I'm not going out. My son (35) just called round, with gifts from his recent month-long holiday to Vietnam . Lovely to see him, and we (Him Indoors and me) are taking him to an Indian restaurant tonight. I know how very lucky I am

No I have a husband, but his job is very weekend based so I’m on my own a lot ( children all adults and gone )

nonnie I didn’t think I had any routines but on thinking on it I do, even if it’s the routines of others such as the postman etc

Agree wholehearedly Kandinsky, we have to try and make the most of what we've got. Do you live alone?

That reminds me Annie I didn't think I had any routines but, yes, 6 pm news is one and I miss it at the weekends. I end up channel surfing to fine news somewhere else and often find it seems better than BBC. Somehow I always go back to Auntie though.

I don’t like weekends, been thinking why, I am in the house every day, live alone, my younger granddaughter is my only visitor, every 7 to 10 days, what’s different ? The postman and milkman doesn’t call, Dial a Ride doesn’t park in the Cul de sac, no BBC 6.00pm news ! So I suppose it’s even more quiet here at weekends than weekdays.

Yes that’s true, it’s the lack of routine that I find hard at weekends, plus everyone else seems to be happily enjoying themselves with family & friends.
Even though Monday to Friday is a drudge ( boring job ) it keeps me busy & occupied.

But I am determined to beat this, I can’t change the past, I know that, but I can ( try at least ) to enjoy life to the best of my ability. What’s the point otherwise?

Oh nanny it all sounds so hard. I think sometimes not knowing is the worst thing. You are in limbo and until you make a plan will probably stay there.

Sorry for those who find weekends worst, as we are retired it doesn't make a great deal of difference to us except that we probably go out less to avoid crowds.

Good morning all. Haven't been on the new thread yet but been watching and keeping up with you all. As others have said, yes Kandinsky (are you a lover of his art, I particularly like his earlier works), weekends can be very challenging for some of us. I have the routine of work during the week which tends to keep my mind occupied but I can find weekends lonely as I live alone. I do try to make plans to see people and do things but I have too much time to ruminate, which isn't good for me! I try to go outside as much as possible and find that's good for me mentally. Wishing you all a peaceful Sunday.

hello all ...sorry not been on much but i do such a long day at work and i have so much to catch up on here......
Annie it was ok, however quite late last night i could not stop the tears from falling. Today someone at work asked about him and i wanted to punch him in the face and say...."do you not think i would sing from the rooftops if i had found him you {insert words of your choice here} Had a little cry just now. Our bungalow is now on the market but im torn between moving away...i,m in debt upto my eyeballs..no hairline, or staying here incase he comes back. I have a 4 bed at the moment but do i go to a 3 because of granddaughter or a 2 to get smaller mortgage and buy a fold up bed for the 3 or so times a year they come here. One thing i do creates so much turmoil

Yes Kadinsky I feel worse at weekends. I have no idea why except I am a creature of habit and I have routine during the week but not at the weekends.

I did not have a good week last week. It would seem my oncologist and surgeon do not agree on my treatment so I will have to wait until July to find out what they have decided to do. My DH has a return of his troublesome hip so sleeps most of the time or hobbles about like an old man not wanting to walk anywhere.

However, I am trying to stay upbeat. They do say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger!!

Some awful experiences but I do hope it is different now. However, only a few years ago I was browbeaten by a younger woman who kept 'accusing' me of being mentally ill and also a relative who was 'mentally ill like her'. Certainly no support or understanding just accusations of how useless we were. My psychiatrist wrote "Depression the Curse of the Strong. Which explains that we are not weak.

Yes, so we have definitely moved on with views of mental health .

Helps us understand why depression etc were not spoken of , how people must have been forced to suffer in silence

Hello Sparkle unbelievable that people still say it but they do. Things are improving though. What about this ?

1971 I was in hospital, post natal depression, we were living in a police house in a town I was happy living in. Whilst I was in the hospital the force moved my husband and babies to another town to save me from the embarrassment of facing neighbours!
