I’ve been called to the assessment clinic after a mammogram - absolutely terrified

I had my first mammogram recently at age 50 which was fairly horrendous - I fainted several time from the pain which the mammographer thought was the result of a large cyst bursting. I can’t describe how painful it was - I don’t want to experience that ever again.

She warned me that as a result of that and what she thought were other cysts, I’d probably be recalled. Sure enough, the letter came in today and I have an appointment on Wednesday. I’m terrified, even though I know that most woman who are recalled do get the all clear. I’m trying to hold it together but am feeling quite tearful.

Has anyone else been recalled? What happens at the appointment?

Well - there we are - good news just before Christmas - I am delighted for you. smile

Locally the breast clinics are a one-stop-shop. You can have a mammogram, then see consultant, get a cyst drained etc. all in one go. My DD has recurrent breast cysts and goes to this clinic - she only tells me she has been when all is well and it is all over - I am happy to continue thus - I just want the good news!

I once had a huge breast cyst that I did not notice, like you. It was flat and spread out so not easy to feel - I was looking for little pea-sized bumps!

Huge sigh of relief all round thanks

Along with another lady I was asked to wait and see the doctor when my mammogram was taken in the hospital. Mine was an old cyst but I noticed an oncology nurse slipping into the consultant’s room just before the other patient was called. Not a good sign as I now know.

It makes you aware of how thin the line can be.
