I’ve been called to the assessment clinic after a mammogram - absolutely terrified

I had my first mammogram recently at age 50 which was fairly horrendous - I fainted several time from the pain which the mammographer thought was the result of a large cyst bursting. I can’t describe how painful it was - I don’t want to experience that ever again.

She warned me that as a result of that and what she thought were other cysts, I’d probably be recalled. Sure enough, the letter came in today and I have an appointment on Wednesday. I’m terrified, even though I know that most woman who are recalled do get the all clear. I’m trying to hold it together but am feeling quite tearful.

Has anyone else been recalled? What happens at the appointment?

SirChenjin I will be thinking of you and hoping for a good outcome. flowers

My past experience of losing someone close has affected my ability to be positive for myself. It's something I can't change.

I also send my good wishes to all those who have undergone, or are undergoing treatment. May you also have good outcomes and better health. flowers

Thank you so, so much, that means so much to me, really ❤️ I’m trying to force some breakfast down (unsuccessfully) before we leave in a little while. Feeling physically sick and quite tearful. I’ll let you know how I get on later. Thanks again - the kindness of complete strangers on here has been overwhelming xxx

Hi I was recalling after my first Mammagram and it was all fine, they redid the scan and then did an examination and told me it was Often the case with a first one they recall to check as they don’t have any historic scan to compare with. I have had a few since and not been called back - good luck

I’ve just finished at the clinic, now sitting having cake and coffee with my absolute star of a DH and thanking my lucky stars above that it was just cysts. I had an ultrasound which showed a 5cm cyst (how the heck I missed it I’ll never know) so they drained it and then I had another mammogram which which completely painless - what a difference from last time!

The staff were amazing and took their time with me, even when I was having a bit of a teary wobble, and I was seen quickly at every stage - the NHS is truly wonderful when it needs to be.

I’ll have a conversation about my HRT with the GP but for now I’m back on 3 yearly mammograms. I feel incredibly lucky - it’s been a time of reflection and it certainly brings things into focus.

I would like to thank you all again from the bottom of my heart for all your support, kindness and good wishes. This thread has kept me going through the last few days when I was at a bit of a low ebb - you’re all wonderful, you really are thanks
