I am so cross. Have just come from my local Co-op store where a woman came in without wearing a mask. Politely mentioned it to a member of staff who said they could not enforce it. Having to shield my husband all these months I find this rather galling. I was under the assumption that people could be asked to wear a mask and if they refused could then be refused service. Am I totally wrong?confused

We are often on the shop floor but have still been told we don’t need to wear a mask
The police won’t get involved, it’s not a law with fines etc (so far) so there is nothing that can be done if someone says they can’t or won’t wear a mask we cannot prove they should so it has to be left It is suggestion only

What are the face coverings rules in shops?
Face coverings must be worn in enclosed public spaces in England - this includes shops, supermarkets, shopping centres, banks, building societies and post offices. It extends to railway and bus stations and airports.

Customers must wear a face covering before entering any shop and keep it on until they leave.

Those who fail to do so could be fined up to £100, or £50 if they pay within 14 days. The rules will be enforced by the police, not shop workers, and only ''as a last resort''.

Shop workers do not have to wear coverings.

But has any one actually been fined for not wearing a mask? For the first few days after wearing one became mandatory, most people did. But as times gone by, more and more people are just not bothering.

Chewbacca.
Can't say it's the same here. My first trip out to Falmouth (Cornwall) last week. Every shop we went into, everyone was wearing a mask even the assistants in some shops.
My weekly shop and both Morrisons and Sainsbury's. Everyone wearing one.
