Frustrating Bowel Movements

Probably just one of the joys of getting old - but my bowels take forever to move these days! So frustrating to have to sit on the toilet for 45 minutes at a time trying.

I'm not constipated so it's pointless taking a laxative - but it's like my bottom muscles have lost it's "oomph" when I try to push and strain.

I have a small rectocele as well, which doesn't help (sometimes I don't notice it, but when it is playing up it makes going impossible)

Very annoying blush

You obviously have a big problem Rach, it should never take that long to poo. speak to your GP. Use a step which really helps. Good luck.

Not good to keep trying for 45 minutes. If it doesn't happen within 5, then get up and walk around, have a drink - but do not sit there. You will get piles and prolapsed rectum.

It is better to use an occasional glycerine suppository than to sit there straining.

mokryna the same tip works on my Android phone, the word "Define" comes up as an option to explain the meaning of the word in question.

I am wondering if this is a serious post. Rach had terrible problems whilst camping, so many details that we didn't really need. Why ask for help on a forum and.not her GP. A female physio would be able to help and would definitely I'm sure recommend a poo stool, although I'm not sure that putting feet on edge of bath is the way to cure chronic constipation ?

My thoughts too, Bigred18

Kittylester Tip, incase you didn’t know. If you are working on an iPad, press on the word, it will highlight in blue and above there will be a choice ‘look up’ press .
A prolapse of the wall between rectum and vagina

Two useful pieces of info in that post thank you !

I agree Bigred18. Such a problm but no attempt to try dietary changes, which definitely work.

I'm suspicious too - I started a thread a few weeks ago on a similar topic. Related to taking Senna. Many helpful replies, then I dropped the subject.

Magnesium say 400mg
Works every time, not diarrhoea
Just go buy some cheap ones
To try first

Sprinkle a teaspoon of inulin powder on a bowl of branflakes & have this for breakfast. It works.

Are we going to have another whole thread of suggestions about constipation that the OP will ignore? Looks like it grin

GagaJo Mon 14-Sep-20 15:23:46

I suggest a scat fan. And not in the jazz meaning.

Alexa Mon 14-Sep-20 17:50:41

Would it help if you put fingers in the vagina and pushed the rectocele from the vagina side?
Also, are soft bulky poos easier to pass? If so you can get that sort of laxative, lways with of water of course.

Alexa Mon 14-Sep-20 17:53:21

I agree, the GP or nurse should sort this for rachb. But It is actually quite difficult to get the help one needs as I know from experience.

Colon care from Holland and Barrett. It’s ground up linseeds. Miraculous.

A ward suster I worked with many decades ago, swore by a bar of chocolate and a hot cup of tea. Worked like magic on the patients.

Luckygirl Sun 20-Sep-20 18:50:30

Hot cup of tea I agree with - but chocolate (when I used to eat it - don't now because of migraines) used to bung me up good and proper!

Tbf.....I wish everyone would ignore it, there it is, on the active page just when I’m having tea and a biscuit ?

While I have every sympathy, some constructive suggestions have been offered.
Enough already?

Lean backwards on the loo as this tilts the bowel and encourages it to empty. (smile)

annep1 Sun 20-Sep-20 19:26:17

Drink glass warm water first thing every morning. Drink continually through the day. Change diet. Do not read in the loo. (Consultant told me this). Lactulose. Walk. Do not sit all that time on the loo.
