Booked one at Asda for this week.
Disappearing Contributors part 3
DH and I had texts from the surgery late September, telling us that flu jabs would take place on each Saturday in October, and that we would be given an appointment.
The four Saturdays have now gone, and no appointment for either of us. We are late sixties and mid seventies.
I tried to book a private jab at Boots, only to find that Boots appear to have run out of the vaccine.
Anyone else experienced this?
Booked one at Asda for this week.
We didn’t need the prescription; just went straight to the local pharmacy
Just a note to say formulation for under 65s is different to over 65s. Some don’t seem aware of this...or they don’t mention their age!
Got a prompt to make an appointment from our surgery and had the jabs done a while back, no problem
South East.
Our surgery rang and gave my husband and me an appointment for our flu jabs.
I rang the day before to confirm but said we were worried, we'd been shielding, OH 77 and very poorly, and we'd not been out since March.
She assured it would be ok.
We went, very busy area, only ones wearing masks, only to be turned away at the surgery door -AS THEY ONLY HAD VACCINES FOR UNDER 65's!
Put us both at risk for nothing. Disgusted.
It must depend on the area/surgery where you live.I could have had one a fortnight ago but chose not to.The surgery rang me last Saturday and said could I come in on Tues (tomorrow) and have one done, so I will do.
DH had one a fortnight ago with no ill effects.
We get ours on Saturday, phoned surgery, got booked in and one week later got jabbed. Straight in the front door, jabbed then out the back door. Never been so fast at the doctors. Reading the posts, I think we are very lucky.
At my last appointment with my diabetic nurse in September she said when flu jabs were coming there would be Saturday appointments - I had a text about 2 weeks later, rang up and the earliest appointment would be about the second week of November. I should have been away then (since cancelled because of the Welsh lockdown), so made an appointment at my local Lloyds chemist - had it done about two weeks ago now. Apart from his cold hands it didn't even hurt like some do
I think only once since I have been diagnosed diabetic I have had it done in the surgery, usually go to the chemist where it is still free as I am entitled to it. You only have to pay if you request it I believe, if you don't pay in the surgery you don't pay in the chemist (might be wrong).
I never wait for the letter I just ask for a nurses appointment in the middle of October to get blood pressure and blood tests done, while I'm there she always says she will give me my flu jab while I'm there .
My pharmacy offered me an appointment which I accepted! Other half had an appointment at GP surgery, turned up and no evidence of him having booked but it was on our calendar!! They gave him the jab !!!
We are in Bradford and cannot complain about our health service here!!
Our surgery was very good.
I rang mid September and we were given Saturday 3rd October for our appointment. We’re 66 and 71.
We arrived at the surgery door, where they had put one of the receptionists in the porch, behind Perspex with her laptop. Names checked and then straight across reception into the corridor where the Drs rooms are off.
Chrissie the practice nurse was in the corridor with her trolley. A jab each and then we exited from the door opposite her, which is the staff only entrance Into the car park.
Four minutes start to finish!!! Excellent service from Stoneycroft Medical Centre Liverpool. ??
In mid September I rang surgery to.grt one as asthmatic. Told they only have over 65 jabs and older people having theirs first. Told to g back in 3 weeks. Rang back 3 weeks later and told jabs for under 65 came in but all used. Then I went to see my sister in Devon as have not visited since December due to Covid. Saw a chemist window saying they had flu jabs on a drop in basis. Got mine done on the spot.
I got mine in September at the pharmacy. They had a note up saying "Ask us about the flu jab " so I asked, and the answer was "He's here today", so I went for it.
I did it because I thought it was one less thing for the surgery to worry about but there's not even a mention on my gp website yet, so I'm glad I did.
Got ours done at Tesco pharmacy, book online
Flowthe Crow what is you objection to protecting yourself & others from illness?
I had an appointment for the regular smear test, and the nurse asked would I like a ‘flu jab? Thought I might as well, so she did it there and then. First time I’ve ever had one. My DH had his this weekend at a socially-distanced “jab session” at the Doctor’s Surgery. Sorted
.
I was surprised when I got an email offering me a jab in the first batch at the beginning of September as I'm not on the vulnerable list. The email said they had ordered one for everyone over 60. So I was one of the first.
It was always going to be a difficult year with offering it to more people (although they did say vulnerable and older people first). My 91 year old aunt in York didn't get hers until late September so I think it's one of those postcode lotteries.
I've had a flu jab every year since I started work in 1974. Until last year when I was old enough to qualify for a free one there were a few years I had to pay. Don't just think of Boots I went to Asda pharmacy for a few years as they were the cheapest also the pharmacies in the bigger stores were open later so sometimes went about 7pm when it was quiet.
I've never had a flu jab and don't intend to start now.
64 - paid for my own and had it done at Boots last week. Had about a month to wait after booking.
Well the reason for having a fly vaccine is that thousands of older/vulnerable people die every year as a result of contracting seasonal flu.
This year there is the added complexity of Covid19. It is important for all health services to try to reduce the number of very sick people so that everyone who is ill can access the medical care that they need.
If washing hands, wearing masks & social distancing was enough...and if everyone was actually doing that.. we would not be experiencing the upsurge of CV19 cases now... so as sensible & good citizens we should all be doing what we can to reduce the chance of ill health.
25Jodieb If we are all washing our hands and social distancing why worry this year about a flu jab?
I must admit, that thought did cross my mind, especially as DH and I rarely leave the house. But, presumably the jab lasts for a year, and hopefully life may be a little more normal next summer, so we would still prefer to have been vaccinated.
I rang my surgery several times & eventually got booked in for beginning October, I don’t think the surgery would have chased us up. We also had a pneumonia jab, just felt it would be a good idea. It’s a one off, well I think it last about 10 years. Good luck, hope you manage to get flu jab soon
Our surgery didn't send out invites this year, so I rang them and was given an appointment for a month later. They wouldn't do the pneumonia jab the same week so went back this week for it. Whilst there the nurse gave me a M.O.T. - blood pressure, weight and bloods tests for various things as she had time. No one else came in or went out the whole time I was there and she wasn't expecting anyone else that morning. Never seen the place so deserted
If we are all washing our hands and social distancing why worry this year about a flu jab?
I nipped into our local pharmacy weeks ago and got one immediately. The lovely pharmacist then came to our house a couple of days later to vaccinate my husband who was just out of hospital following a partial knee replacement op.
