support, understanding and sharing for all mental health
troubles .

BlueSky Thu 20-May-21 11:27:40

Morning all x Nonnie must be great to be able to dismiss whatever symptom you have, even when dr Google kindly points you towards the nasty stuff! Wish I could be like that, my poor MiL was always like that, refused to consider serious stuff until proven otherwise! Not sure where I got this from but used to look up the health encyclopaedia even as a young teenager! I’ve been told it’s part of the wider spectrum of Generalised Anxiety Disorder.
I just battle on when it strikes!
Wishing you all a pleasant day x cafe

Nonnie Thu 20-May-21 11:12:46

Doodle how lovely to go out for a meal and be 'normal'.

Hope your elbow is better, no such thing as a funny bone!

BlueSky it sounds horrible to have that anxiety, wish I had a helpful suggestion but all I can think is to discuss it with your GP but you have probably already done that.

Annie no idea how you could lose your email address, can you find a 10 year old to come in and help grin

Did it help to know the cause of your fear?

Oh Joce if only we could control our thoughts! I hate it when someone suggests we 'don't think about it'.

Scardycat if you ever find that off switch let me know.

Ellie Anne that all sounds really positive, good for you. Hope you can keep it up but, if not, keep it in mind and know you can do it again.

So many of you with the health anxiety, not sure about Google. If you see you have 2 symptoms do you think you have whatever it is? I am the other way, if there are 10 symptoms and I only have 8 I assume I don't have it and ignore it, sometimes to my cost and whatever it is gets worse. There must be a happy medium between us.

Thanks for all the interest in DH's recovery. I do have to push him on the physio and he is improving but it is quite hard going for both of us.

Yesterday a lovely friend took me out to lunch at a Caribbean restaurant and I had a really great time. I needed that after all that has been going on. Bonus was that the bus in was delayed and I had a 15 minute very interesting conversation with a really lovely man. I count my blessings that I live in such a wonderful place.

BlueSky Wed 19-May-21 19:30:31

Doodle thanks for your reassuring words, it helps to know what we are experiencing happens to other people too, and I think social media is good for this. Scaredy and Joce unfortunately you too suffer with this anxiety business, Annie not sure what triggered it all those years ago. While Google can be a blessing it’s often a curse.
You are right Doodle as soon as DH has had his jab, got his appointment through today, I’ll go out for a meal and I may even enjoy it. You are so right mustn’t waste any chances. We also phoned about his sciatica surgery and of course they said what we knew already, everything delayed because of Covid!
I wish you all a peaceful night xbrew

Doodle Wed 19-May-21 18:40:33

Bluesky hot flushes can be caused by anxiety and worry too I know because I get one quite often if something worrying crosses my mind. It could just be hormones. Your worrying about them may cause them to happen more. I’ve been having hot flushes for years.
If your DH is keen to go for a meal, why don’t you go. You may find you enjoy yourself and it might take you out of yourself a bit. Places seem well set up to cope with COVID restrictions.
None of us know what life has to offer so best not to waste a chance to enjoy it.
Annie sounds as though you are in the midst of lots going on. Hope you get your email connections sorted out soon. x
Joce yes the mind is quite something. It would be lovely to have a time of no worry or to just tell our minds to switch off for a bit, shame we can’t.
Scaredycat yes it was lovely to go out again. I think I am feeling more confident now we have had our second jabs.
Ellie Anne how lovely to spend time with your son and DGC.
Sounds like you are getting our and about a bit now. does that make things better for you?

I have been to the dentist today. They were very good with safety precautions. They looked a bit like Dath Vader with all the equipment they were wearing,
My jaw aches to tonight a bit but it wasn’t really painful. What is painful is my elbow. I banged it hard on the door handle earlier on and I have a feeling a huge bruise is coming .
Hope everyone has a good night. Sleep well all x

Ellie Anne Wed 19-May-21 18:19:45

Thank you scaredy-cat. I’m feeling better. I met my son and baby outside for a walk on Sunday. Husband wanted to come even though he can’t walk far so he had to sit down and I got to spend a bit of time with my son and baby.( I can’t talk properly a when husband is there).yesterday I met a friend for coffee.
Washing machine died and I coped with buying another one ok
Am taking a lady from church to a hospital appointment on Friday.
Hope you have all had a good day.

Scaredycat Wed 19-May-21 16:25:23

Hello all
Nonnie - hope you had a better sleep last night. You must have felt very relieved being able to be with your husband at the physio. It really does help to have two sets of ears listening and taking it all in.
Doodle - so glad you enjoyed your meal out- sounds heavenly. D H is dropping hints as he is more relaxed than me - hopefully soon. At least we go out for coffee so it won’t be long.?
Bluesky - sorry your HA is causing you distress. It really is so debilitating. I have felt much the same lately but trying to talk sense to myself!! It just takes over sometimes doesn’t it. You,ll feel better once you have talked to your GP. Take care.
Annie - what a pain when things go wrong with Emails or anything to do with the Internet etc. I always panic and think it is my fault - confidence must be a wonderful thing.
You are right about the power of the mind. Good because of all the wonderful things there are to learn, see ,feel and experience but the flip side that can be so bad when it haunts with sadness fear and worry.
I hope you are able now to manoeuvre your chair more easily . Can you get some fresh air at all.? Think of you often. Take carex
Joce- If only we had an OFF switch sometimes! Enjoy the sunshine.
Ellie Anne - hope you are OK.
Best wishes to all

Joce345 Wed 19-May-21 13:31:44

Annie that so right black and white. I can see why your mind would connect the two..
our minds are so very powerful...
Bluesky yes two much knowledge can be very harmful to people in our situation..
I remember my GP when he told me I had PA, I knew nothing at all about it, he didn’t tell me anything only, his words just get on with it worst case you have a lot higher percentage of getting Stomach cancer..
I was in bits for days till my husband went to our local health care and got info on it...

Annie hope you are ok today ...

Anniebach Wed 19-May-21 11:46:04

Joyce BlueSky the mind is so powerful, for the good and the bad.

Example, my fear of snow, forecast for snow in Scotland would
start me off and I live in Wales ! When getting married my poor mother was exhausted from going from shop to shop , town to town because I only wanted a dark cream wedding gown, hated white.

Years later had therapy, included hypnosis, the psychologist recorded me talking under hypnosis, I connected falling snow with the tip which fell on my old school in Aberfan, I was at the
disaster, my fear of snow was fear of it covering my house like the tip covered the school, black/white no difference to my mind .

BlueSky Wed 19-May-21 10:35:39

Joce a kind nurse said to me when having my first baby and panicking about my poo looking black, side effect of iron tablets, but I didn’t know, “A little knowledge is a dangerous thing”.
Annie thanks for your kindness. I try not to show my DH as he has little sympathy for this sort of things.
Take care all x

Joce345 Wed 19-May-21 10:25:02

Morning all, Bluesky snap I hate this feeling has well all doom and gloom..has someone said it’s just our thoughts, if only it was that easy for us.. the mind is a (wonderful thing.) hope it passes for you soon.. the sun is shining hear, going to get some washing out...

Doodle how love to be able to go out for a meal glad you enjoyed it let’s hope it last for us all....

Nonnie hope your DH is feeling better today, did you get some well earned rest last night... thinking of you.

Ellie Anne hope you are ok today ....

Annie thinking of you as always xx

Anniebach Wed 19-May-21 09:49:23

Hi all x

BlueSky so sorry your health anxiety is causing you much distress, you have had this from your teens, did something happen to trigger it ?

Do explain to the GP, you need reassurance my love x

nonnie hope your husband is improving and you are not too
stressed.

I am still trying to get things together, and at the weekend something went wrong with my emails, can’t send or receive, have had the same email address for years, most odd, trying to
set up a new one and I haven’t the foggiest how to.

My love and hugs to all x

BlueSky Wed 19-May-21 09:26:07

Morning all x Sunny morning let’s hope it’ll last. I’ve been in the grips of my health anxiety again. I convinced myself the hot flushes are something sinister rather than side effects of BP medication. So I spend miserable nights worrying about it, give myself stomach ache as well. Never mind blood test Friday and I’ll mention it to the GP when called to discuss. Hate this feeling which I’ve had since I was a teenager.
Nonnie following your DH’s progress as I know my DH will have to have similar when he finally gets his op. Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Doodle good that you’ve been out for a meal. My DH keeps hinting but I’ve got no interest whatsoever.
Annie hope you have some positive news for us.
Wishing you all a pleasant day x cafe

Doodle Tue 18-May-21 21:03:27

We’ve been out for a meal tonight, first time since last September. Really enjoyed it and had a leisurely walk home.
Annie hope things are being sorted as you would like. I hope you are not getting too stressed by all these visitors.
Nonnie good thing your were allowed in with DH. I always go with mine if I can. Two heads being better than one when it comes to remembering what to do.
Hope you have a good night’s sleep.
Bleusky, Scaredycat , Joce hope you all have had a good day. Take care all x

Nonnie Tue 18-May-21 10:28:31

Yes Doodle they grow up far too quickly.

Went to physio with DH last night, they let me go in which was a great help. Now I feel more confident about how to help him. Very tired today, 2 nights with not much sleep, going to take a pill tonight.

Hope all are well and that you have the same sunshine we have.

Doodle Mon 17-May-21 21:43:03

Scaredycat I love to see children dress up too. Their imagination is amazing. Good to hear you had a catch up with your sister. Hope you get to meet up soon.
Annie I hope you don’t get stressed by all this and things are going well. Take care. We are thinking of you x
Nonnie good your DH is going to see someone. Hopefully everything is ok.
I hope your DGS enjoyed his first day at school. My DGD has her last day at school on Thursday ?. Can’t believe where the time has gone.

Nonnie Mon 17-May-21 12:57:35

Joce wise words to Ellie Anne

Thanks Doodle bleeding seems to have stopped but now his leg has gone yellow! He will show it to the physio tonight, hope I'm allowed to go in with him.

Doodle and Scardycat My GS has Spiderman, Paw Patrol, Batman, Gruffalo and probably more. Some were handed down from his brother. Even when he wears 'normal' clothes he finds a way of making them different. Yes, 'fun' describes him and he has the sort of charm which lets him get away with all sorts. Today is his first proper day at school.

Annie I think you must be Gangster Grannie grin

Took DH's discharge letter to the surgery this morning, the only time it rained was while I was waiting outside for them to answer the bell. Lovely beautiful sunshine now!

Anniebach Mon 17-May-21 10:16:21

Hi all x

You are in my prayers. Things should calm down for me soon,
two more battles today, I am turning into a female Mohammad
Ali ?

Scaredycat Sun 16-May-21 21:39:14

Evening all
Bluesky - sorry you haven’t felt well but at least you can talk it over at your review. Hope you have felt better today.
Nonnie- glad your DH is back home safely. Hope the ice packs helped with the pain. I understand the request for poached eggs they are real comfort food.
My eldest GGS loves to dress up too - I don’t always know who the characters are he chooses to be but he always puts me right!! I love the unselfconsciousness of children in dressing up gear.
Ellie Anne - hope you are ok today.
Joce- good to hear from you . It was a nice thing you said about how we all cope with the way we feel - thank you.
Doodle - I don’t really have nose bleeds but remember when I was a teenager and had Asian flu that it made my nose bleed terribly- that horrible warm feeling!!
I didn’t walk today as the weather was not good but had a Face Time with my sister - so good to see her she’s doing really well.
Hoping maybe to see her this Summer if the Pandemic doesn’t get bad again.. I get a bit twitchy if I don’t walk though always feel better to get out in the air.
Annie - hope you are having a restful day today .
Wishing you all a peaceful nightx

Doodle Sun 16-May-21 20:40:56

Bluesky hope you have been feeling a bit better today.
Scaredycat we stayed in today as it was raining so much. Been turning up more gems and tidying up.
Have you been for a walk?

Doodle Sun 16-May-21 20:39:44

Nonnie you’ve obviously picked up the football by osmosis ?. Glad your DH is home. Hope he is more comfortable now and you both get some rest tonight.
If DH keeps passing blood do mention it to the GP won’t you. I think it’s quite normal for small amounts just after it’s taken out.
Your DGSs sound like fun. Mine liked being Spider-Man.
Joce what I do know about nose bleeds is that you can just lean your head forward and let them drip (not easy when you are out for a walk) So for the first one I just sat with a bowl in my lap and let it drip into the bowl. There was quite a lot to begin with but gradually the drips lessened until it stopped. It is easier than trying to stem the flow.
Annie I hope you’ve been having a rest today. How do you cope without help at the weekends? Hope you are ok x
Have a restful evening all x

Joce345 Sun 16-May-21 17:44:48

Nonnie it’s a good job we are good at multitasking. Hope you DH gets better soon..

Bluesky hopefully your feeling better today

Doodle I get nose bleeds and for some reason always sends me into a anxiety attack.. hope your ok today

Scaredycat thinking of you as always.

Ellie Anne I see my daughters kids a lot more than my sons
I get on really well with his wife. I just think it a man thing
I don’t think you are a wimp, I think all of us in the BDG are braver than we think I’m sure a lot of people wouldn’t cope if they had to face everyday the same way we do...
give your medication a bit more time to work for you

Hope everyone having a good weekend..

Nonnie Sun 16-May-21 10:06:11

Scardycat thanks. I picked him up at 4pm, still in a lot of pain. He was home in time for the football and DS came round with ice packs for him. He did get some sleep so later on we will do the physio. I am in charge of the meds as they are a bit confusing. Even more confusing was the I knew who 3 of the football pundits were and why Gary L was so please about the winner. I though I had worked hard at knowing nothing about football! Another failure grin

He is definitely going to be something creative, always building things and explaining how everything works. He is 7 and brother is 4, currently dressing as a goth but not sure why? Never dressed as a small boy, always has to be a character.

Ellie Anne sounds like you are coping slightly better, hope it lasts.

Doodle thanks, that is comforting about the catheter, I'll tell him.

BLueSky it will be good to talk about it with the GP. So glad you are getting your annual test, think I will have to ask for mine as it is about 9 months overdue.

Off to try to be a good nurse/physio/cook/dogsbody. Had a lovely healthy meal planned for last night but himself said he didn't want it after all the lovely food in the hospital, wanted poached eggs on toast!

Doodle Sat 15-May-21 21:25:56

Bluesky sorry you’re not feeling too good. Hope you get a proper review next week and perhaps get something to help with the hot flushes,. I doubt it is the jab to be honest but ask the surgery. Hope you feel better soon.

BlueSky Sat 15-May-21 20:51:55

Evening all x I haven’t feeling too good it seems my usual BP medication is giving me hot flushes, not quite sure why. It’s now 2 weeks after my second jab, could it be that? Seems rather far fetched. Anyway I’ve got my annual blood test and medication review next week so the right opportunity to mention it. Wishing you all a good night xbrew

Doodle Sat 15-May-21 19:38:45

Bluesky how have you been keeping?
Nonnie that’s a nice post to Ellie Anne and true. No wimps round her and no one should put themselves down. We all have things we struggle to cope with in our lives.
Last time my DH had a catheter he peed some blood for a while after it came out but it didn’t last for long. Get him to check with the nurses. Sounds as though he’s getting mobile. Hope he’s back home with you soon.
Good to hear your DGSs are having fun.
Scaredycat thank you. No nose bleed today I am pleased to say. I too prefer to walk with DH but it’s good you still went and got some exercise.
Ellie Anne sounds as though when the virus is sorted you will be invited to meet up with your son and family. It’s a worrying time for all. Do you get photos of the baby?
Take care all x
