In 2018 I saw the dr about tightness in my chest when I was walking the dog uphill. I thought I was just unfit. They immediately referred me to chest pain clinic and I was referred for an angiogram, my father died of a heart attack in his early 40’s. I was also prescribed 20mg atorvastatin and aspirin. Went for angiogram and was hoping for good news, however I was told there and then at the age of 53 that I needed a triple bypass and was not allowed home. I had fantastic care from the NHS and was told my heart was healthy, just the plumbing needed some help. They saved my life and I still take statins. They wanted to up the dose after my bypass to 80mg but I resisted and following cholesterol tests the 20mg seems to continue to do the trick.
You must do what you think is best and genetics play a big part in how our bodies react, obviously diet and lifestyle too. I’ve learnt a lot about how that sometimes we do need help and support. From going in my early 50’s to not taking any medication to taking those that I believe help me live my life to the full.
