Hi all.
Annie- What a shame you didn’t go to Turin - it was a great idea. I would have gone with you!! I have driven quite a lot in Europe and loved every minute. You were so normal to want an adventure and to see something so wonderful. I still love to travel but no longer drive abroad - leave that to DH. Still drive here though. Sounds like you had quite a few adventures when you were younger - great memories. X
Joce- hope you get to Switzerland one day - you so deserve it.
At last this weekend my dear sister is able to visit for a few days so I will see you all when she goes home. It is over 2 years since we have been together and she has been so very poorly.

How is everyone ?

Been thinking about ‘brave’ and ‘normal’ and going to Switzerland !
In the 70’s the Turin Shroud was put out for viewing, and friend and I so wanted to see it, one problem, no way would a
go by air, not a problem for me but for him, I decided I would
drive he could fly we would meet in Turin.

He was horrified, spoke of the dangers for me, I wasn’t at all
fearful, we didn’t go.

So was I abnormal and and not brave ? I think I was the opposite.

Oh Joce I wish you could. It was always my dream too and when I did get there I loved it. The air is so pure and the hills so quiet apart from the cowbells ringing. Who knows. There is still time ?

scaredycat I have trouble understanding what people say on the TV. Not because I have hearing problems but because they mumble or there is so much background sound or the accent is so strong. I have given up watching American programs I can understand a word usually. Either that or I use subtitles.
You are brave to do things you don’t really want to do but keep going anyway.

BlueSky- glad you have recovered so well. It just seems such a lottery whether you get really ill or not. Glad you are OK.
I have trouble hearing what people say on TV especially all those mumbling actors nowadays. I wondered if a hearing aid might help.
Joce- sorry you are still so anxious but I think you are very brave as you deal with life everyday despite this anxiety.
So pleased your DD achieved her aim and reached the top of Snowdon. What a beautiful photo.
Doodle- hope you,ve had another good day today. Thank you for thinking I,m brave. I try hard but I feel so shaky a lot of the time although it is not visible - just internal. I certainly join you with the rolling worries especially those that fly into your head when you wake in the night. How we miss adventures like you had in Switzerland - maybe one day again eh.
Annie- hope you are ok today and haven’t had to sing the Worm Song. I don’t know how people can have been so cruel to you - they speak without any understanding of mental health. What’s happening on the blinds front today? Xx
Ellie Anne - you are such a great Mum- your children must be so glad of your help. Don’t forget to see after yourself too.
Nonnie- I,m so sorry you had to listen to such cruelty too - you certainly don’t need people like that on your life.
I,m sorry your friend is so poorly it is so sad when old friends become seriously ill.

Ellie Anne it’s kind of you to help out with your son and family. Sorry your son was grumpy. I expect, as you say, he was tired. Nice to see your granddaughters.
I think you spend a lot of time worrying about your family and doing all you can for them, meanwhile you don’t have much enjoyment in your own life. Try and make time for you too and do something’s you enjoy. Your family are lucky to have you.
Nonnie like the sound of those meringues ?
I can’t imagine what it’s like to lose a child and how you ever cope yet I know people do. Somehow we all get on with what comes our way and hope for better times. I’m sure it helped others in their grief just to share with people who understand how they feel.
Sorry to hear about your friend. What a coincidence you were thinking of her.
Annie not the heating too…..!! I hope that is fixed before it gets colder.
Can you remember your walks (climb) up Snowdon? Must have felt a wonderful achievement. Beautiful views.
I once went to the top of a mountain in Switzerland. By cable car not walking. It was really high up and surrounded by other mountains. No roads or cars or anything else in sight. Only stillness and quiet. I stood there for ages just looking.
Annie I wonder why people have to wish to be so cruel. Do they never think how wrong they are or that their words hurt others. So many people are ignorant of mental health illnesses.

nonnie I am not sensitive to what people say after the years
my darling daughter was so ill and then took her life. I was even told she had bipolar because I had spoilt her as a child, and she had bipolar because I had post natal depression after the birth of my younger daughter!

Sorry you feel sensitive about what others say, I only do that if it is someone close to me. Think I changed when DS died and someone said he chose to. I told him the Coroner didn't know the cause of death but be never apologised. Cut him out of my life because of his insensitivity. Surely all that matter was that his Godson was dead? Later had an email asking us to go to his wife's funeral. We didn't.

Joce you are 'normal', just different from some but on here you are normal.

So please your DD climbed Snowdon.

Yes Doodle incredibly hard but some of the others were very new and I hope we let them see a glimmer of how to cope.

Scardycat brave is when you achieve something you feared or thought you couldn't do. I think you are brave.

Ellie Anne you sound very understanding of you family's issues, they are lucky to have you.

Late last night I heard that a friend who has been quiet for a while has cancer. A few days ago I got a very strong urge to pray for her, now I know why. We started our first job together 59 years ago.

Hello everyone.
I’ve been quite busy today. Went over to older sons house as the housework, ironing etc are piling up and d in l struggling with it as they are both working and the house is too small for 4 people though they do have too much stuff.
Was lovely to see my granddaughters though but their dad was really grumpy. But he’s been starting at 4 am and working 12 hour day so I can see why.
I seem to have spent this week putting a face on for people and haven’t felt real if that makes sense.
Hope the blind saga is coming to an end Annie and we will have good news soon.

Thank you all. It is lovely to have a good day when things go well. I treasure them and it’s so nice to see family have a happy day after all they’ve been through.

Good your brother is doing better. Hope things go well for you and your anxiety subsides.
Nonnie you were very brave to go to the Compassionate Friends meeting. Maybe sharing your feelings and thoughts helped others. Must have been a very sad meeting for so many.
Glad the new hearing aids are working better and more comfortable.
Annie I don’t believe this. Now the charger is broken. How much longer can this take. Unbelievable ?
Scaredycat I’m sure you are a lot braver than you let on. How are things with you? Yes you are right it is lovely for things to go well. Doesn’t stop me being worried, I roll from one worry to another as do we all I suspect ?
Annie I can’t abide worms and wriggly things. Another phobia of mine I think. Perhaps that’s why I’m not a keen gardener.
Bluesky glad things are better for you. You are right, many are suffering from long COVID which is really like a version of ME. Good you are feeling better.

Morning all x Pretty much back to normal here but it took me about a month to get over Covid. I know of people, younger and fitter, than didn’t get away with it so lightly, possibly being NHS workers had the jabs earlier, plus their ‘viral load’ must have been huge.
Nonnie you made me chuckle with your DH’s comment about hearing aids, that’s me I’m afraid, and yes I’m constantly saying “What did you say”? to poor DH.
Annie no another set back with your blinds. I guess you’ll have a grand opening when they are finally fitted and we’ll all come round! Can’t wait to read that this at least, has been sorted for you.
Doodle pleased about your news and as Nonnie said it gives hope to others.
Scaredy as I got older I’ve become very sensitive to what people say to me, assuming that they are being condescending. I know I’m probably over reacting.

My younger daughter has worn a hearing aid since a child, doesn’t bother her.

Scaredycat being brave is not casting off fears, being brave is
doing something even though fearful x

Not just about sharing, about listening and supporting others, seems to be some sort of comfort, makes me feel useful.

Scardycat spiders don't bother me they don't bite!! I (bravely ) decided when DS1 was 18 months old that I was not going to react to such things. We were in the garden and he picked up a worm and tried to give it to me. Slugs and snails -little boys are made of.

Oh yes, the mask effect! I hardly ever wear earrings these days because of masks. Specs and hearing aids are bad enough, have to check everything is still there after putting it on or taking it off. Audiologist was really surprised I have no vanity about wearing the aids, no one bothers about the specs so what's the difference. Would be worse if I kept asking them to repeat themselves like DH does because he 'doesn't need them'

Sorry all been out all day and so tired now so off to bed. I will catch up with you all tomorrow. Sleep well x

I do agree about people’s assumption one size fits all us older people. My pet hate is when they say”bless” to me during a conversation.
Your new hearing aids sound just the job - they should be more comfortable when you are wearing a mask. Do you have to be careful putting on and taking one off? I like stud earrings and you really have to be careful you don’t send them flying!

Happy for you Doodle and thank you for sharing that, it gives hope to all.

We went to a meeting of the Compassionate Friends (for those whose child has died). We nearly didn't go because the new venue is a place we used to take our son 4 times a week. It was traumatic but we did it. Some people had travelled over 30 miles to come. So many tragic stories, sudden death, suicides etc. Didn't make us feel any better but at least we all understood each other.

Doodle thank you, it’s lovely to hear when someone has has a good day, so pleased you have enjoyed time with your family, and your worries are eased some for you.
We never know what’s going on in other people’s lives the worries and crosses we have to bear.
My daughter has seen the GP after all that, he hummed and aww about sending her for intravenous antibiotics. But decided she was better at home... I told her to elevate it has much as possible...just heard from her the swelling is going down still very red but GP was not concerned about that...
Hopefully she will be ok in the morning to go to snowdon...
