Does anyone use dental floss with a floss holder?

Would like to know what you think of these floss handles which are supposed to hold dental floss taught whilst flossing.

My husband has a battle with floss every day since he’s stopped using the plastic flossing tools with the floss sealed into the “forks”. He’s trying to cut down on plastic but is deeply frustrated.

He tried substituting with wooden/bamboo flossers but can’t even find any with the prongs like a fork (Y shaped) they are always the sort-of “flat” type which are difficult round wisdom teeth.

Any advice please?
Thank you.

Gave up on floss - the little Teepee brushes are much easier and dentists seem to rate them too.

I gave up on floss too. My dentist recommended a Waterpik waterflosser which I bought. Absolutely brilliant! I use it before brushing and so much easier than fiddling around with floss!

As an aside, I pick up litter on my local beach almost every day. Floss forks/picks are one of the things I find most often. People must use them and put them down the toilet and then they end up in the sea.

Thanks. I like the little brushes and they are better apparently but my husband doesn't get on with them and is looking for a solution to the flossing plastic waste.

Maybe we should look at the water-pic idea.
No plug in the bathroom though....

OMG the world is going to hell in a hand basket and you're worried about floss holders!

Waterpik, dental tape and Tepe interdental brushes are all used here. The waterpik uses rechargeable batteries.

Esspee We can’t do a lot about changing the world, but we can change someone’s life by being helpful!

Squiffy. You are changing her life? Really?

Esspee Ever heard the phrase if you can't say something nice then say nothing at all?

If it’s just to make unpleasant remarks - why bother! Nothing better to do?

Esspee my final comment is this - you surely realise that good dental hygiene helps to prevent serious health issues. So, yes, it can be life-changing if someone develops heart problems through dental infections.

Thank you for the tip about the water flosser, I'll treat myself to one. I use the brushes as well as satin tape floss and as my eyes aren't so great now, have to use them with a magnifying mirror in bright light, not very enjoyable before bed.

Never thought I'd see bickering about dental floss.

Esspee, Do you recycle anything?
If so, why bother?

Small changes made by enough people have bigger impacts.
I thought everyone knew this.

Sorry that my interest in something that will, in a small way, make my husband's life simpler is enough to bother you.

And actually, I'm not only bothered by the floss holders I'm bothered by the floss too!

I use a battery operated one from Panasonic. It's lasted a good while now. Also use floss sticks but won't be buying any more to reduce plastic. I shall revert to winding it round my fingers.
