Poor eyesight due to stroke recovery

Thank you everyone, initially I did get a home visit from the optician he was very kind and came to see me several times. I’m happy to say I can now manage to visit the opticians myself and yes I think the vision becomes impaired due to tiredness. It can clear up from time to time I’ll just have to be more patient and give my eyes time away from my iPad.

Sorry to hear of your problems Elizabert1. I don’t have your problem but have lost a lot of my sight, partly due to COVID delaying treatment. I find my sight fluctuates depending on how tired I am so do my best to get plenty of rest. I second seeking professional help, the low vision clinic at the hospital provided me with a really good magnifying glass and a small one for my handbag. Really good lighting makes a huge difference and I’ve discovered the accessibility options on my laptop and tablet. I do most of my reading on my tablet and find using the white print on black background option the easiest. I set a timer and rest my eyes every 20/30 minutes. Above all be patient with yourself, easier to say than do I know, and don’t hesitate to ask for help when you need it. Hope it’s not long no before you see an improvement but meanwhile do everything you can to make life easier for yourself.

Does it depend on how tired/exhausted you are? Strokes are notoriously exhausting and though I haven’t had a stroke I know that when I am tired my eyesight is worse. Good luck!

It really depends on what your visual impairments are, as stroke can cause different problems for people.

There is some very useful info on the RNIB website, link below. A good optometrist should be able to advise on suitable glasses and if necessary can refer you to a consultant ophthalmologist. There are eye exercises that you can do to help with some things.

The issue following a stroke or other brain injury is complicated because no 2 days are the same. I’m sure you’ve noticed that already.

Nothing to do with a stroke but I do have a lot of eye problems which aren’t noticeable to anyone but myself so you have my sympathy unfortunately nothing can be done for me so I ve had to learn to live with it

I'm sorry you are having to cope with this - is it stating the obvious to ask if you have been seen by the optician lately. There are some that do home visits if its requested.
