The NHS definition of housebound says the following:
‘An individual will not be eligible for a home visit if they are able to leave their home environment on their own or with minimal assistance to visit public or social recreational public services (including shopping), and ultimate responsibility to determine whether a patient requires a home visit rests with the assessing clinician.’

my last in response to Kali2's comment.

welbeck Tue 16-Nov-21 22:08:02

well that's up to the GPs/district nurses to decide who is truly
housebound.
i'm surprised that the woman's insistence is enough to get her a home visit.
it certainly isn't around here. the medical situation/disability has to be severe. even then it's difficult. only after much pleading, and pointing out that hosp appts need a stretcher.

Casdon Tue 16-Nov-21 22:07:11

No they haven’t I don’t think Mokryna, some pharmacies and GP practices in the UK can give Pfizer as well, but it’s because they have purchased freezers suitable for storage, rather than because the vaccine storage requirements have changed. It doesn’t come in individual patient vials, so they have to draw it from a larger unit to get the right sized dose, and use it quickly whilst it’s still stable, which is why it’s so difficult to give to people at home.

I asked, because a woman I know insists on having home vaccination, but is perfectly happy to take taxi to go to hairdressers or her daughter's.

The cost and time of those home visits is HUGE, so they should be for truly exceptional cases only.

A very elderly and frail lady had booked for her booster at our local pharmacy. She arrived in a wheelchair by black cab with a carer. I don't understand why you are due a home visit - if you're not housebound.

mokryna Tue 16-Nov-21 21:35:03

* Casdon* I think they have tweaked the Pfizer dose because here in France pharmacies can give the vaccine.

People who have home vaccinations cannot go out, so a taxi would be no good, usually they cannot even weight-bare and are often bed bound as well as house-bound. The district nurse or the doctor in some cases will do the vaccinations, but it is usually after everyone in that category have been done. At least that is our experience. It will happen though. The carers (if she is lucky) can have hers at the same time.

I'm housebound, not been out in 2 years, I have had my flu jab, GP came and did it but still waiting for the Covid booster, spoke to GP this morning and he said he would be talking to his practice manager later today to see what could be sorted

I had Pfizer first 2 and Moderna for 3rd. Had more side effects with Moderna. Our vaccines seemed to be by streets in Midlothian. Met most of neighbours there ?

nipsmum Tue 16-Nov-21 15:20:17

In Aberdeen the 3 rd vaccine was Moderna. I had Astra Zenica for the first two.

JANH I know several CEV people in my area that were sent text and letter. I myself ended up with two text. One from NHS and one from my GP. (I'm not CEV) I went to a walk in clinic at our hospital with no problems. As far as housebound are concerned there is a difference in each authority I think, as to who gets a house call and who doesn't.

dumdum Tue 16-Nov-21 11:49:32

Together, or at least 3 weeks apart

I am in Wales and classed as Clinically Extremely Vunerable, shielding for well over a year. I had my first vaccine in the January, second in April, done by the surgery. When it came to the booster, I heard nothing. My husband (over 70) had his second jab, the same day as myself. So when his booster letter arrived and mine didn’t I telephoned the number on the letter. Major problems getting the clerk to give me a date as she said that I wasn’t due. I eventually did have a date for the following week but no letter. It seems to me that the CEV were omitted from the equation, you must follow up yourself or get a family member to do it for you.

District nurses will only visit you at home if you are totally housebound. If you do go out occasionally then you should go to a vaccination centre near you. Apply online for an appointment or ask a relative/friend to book yours online.

TillyTrotter Tue 16-Nov-21 08:18:24

multicss do you come under Scotland Nhs?
If so helpline telephone number is 0800 22 44 88.
I hope they can help you with home vaccine giving. Tap the photo to enlarge a bit.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 16-Nov-21 08:06:56

That sounds reassuring. Try not to worry.

multicolourswapshop Tue 16-Nov-21 08:01:41

Having phoned my local surgery I was told it’s nothing to do with them it’s now in the hands of the nhs. They’ve got me down for a home visit I must try and get the nhs number but I thought I would get a letter or a phone call. I’m not totally housebound I can occasionally get out and about. But thank you everyone for your comments.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 15-Nov-21 14:48:35

That seems to be the problem in my area.

Calistemon Mon 15-Nov-21 14:24:15

Yes, of course, I think the booster is Pfizer.

This was 1st and 2nd vaccinations which were Astra Zeneca
