Hello, I wonder if any one is suffering with this ailment. I am eighty. Have been treated at a variety of hospitals over a period of ten years. First surgery carried out in 2003. Am between a rock and a hard place. Can have a colostomy at a private BMI hospital for £25,000, or wait indefinitely on the NHS waiting list with no date for the foreseeable. Every day is a challenge. I appreciate that there are countless people far worse off than I am. I would however be most grateful of any first hand information that can help me to manage this dire situation. Thank you.

I think that’s the technical term Aveline ?
Whatever the term is, it’s good to hear the total is going up. Thanks Marydoll .
Soop deserves the best.

Thanks Marydoll It’s wonderful to see that total creeping up.

Aveline Mon 13-Dec-21 10:56:12

Is there a more tactful way of putting it than just 'bumping'?

Marydoll Mon 13-Dec-21 08:29:42

Bumping!

Thank you for helping to keep my spirits upbeat. There are moments when I am filled with dread. I love life. I shall do everything in my power to remain with you all for a very long time. That's a promise.

Lovely lady, you thoroughly deserve lots of support. Have a lovely evening looking forwards.

soop Sat 11-Dec-21 16:53:44

It has been a blowy, wet day. Good to be here in our cosy home with a brew and cupcake. After Boxing Day, I shall be watching the carb intake. Mr McCourtney stressed that extra weight makes his work as a surgeon more tricky. I aim to please.

We are continuing to feel upbeat. We are continuing to say thank you for every happy Chtistmas gift that brightens our day.

Lovely people. All of you.

Would be good if you had an actual date. However, a good night's sleep is not to be sneezed at! Hope you have another one tonight Soop.

soop Sat 11-Dec-21 15:07:18

Dear you lovely lot, we both slept more soundly last night. The light at the end of the tunnel doesn't seem unreachable since the most welcome phone call. . smile flowers

Bump.

TillyTrotter Fri 10-Dec-21 21:16:42

Very optimistic news for you soop. ?
You and Mr soop will be relieved that things will be moving in the right direction after Christmas.
Pinch each other dear lady - because it will happen ?

Jaxjacky Fri 10-Dec-21 19:46:16

That’s all positive soop and moving forwards, hopefully early first quarter.

Marydoll Fri 10-Dec-21 19:45:27

Bumping again. Please see Soop's latest update of 19.11.

soop Fri 10-Dec-21 19:11:25

Dearest you lovely lot. I had a very informative conversation with Mr McCourtney, the surgeon. The surgery will take place in the first quarter of next year. He will now present my case including my age etc to the finance department who set the amount for the proposed surgery. I shall receive a letter with details in the not too distant future. Mr McCourtney needs to see us in person in January. The surgery is major with risks of which we must be made fully aware. We both feel uplifted and remain confident. Please share with Kitcheners as I shall now need to log off until tomorrow. smile moon

That's fantastic

soop Fri 10-Dec-21 15:57:48

Gulp! Smelling salts, please. I'm in a deep swoon. Bloody fantastic...that's all that I can say right now. grin

Marydoll Fri 10-Dec-21 15:44:04

Reached £12,000

shysal Fri 10-Dec-21 10:27:39

I have just made another donation, let us hope a few more people are able to do the same. ?

Marydoll Fri 10-Dec-21 08:56:58

Bumping!
£11,824

Aveline Thu 09-Dec-21 20:06:12

It'll be the hospital that sets the charge and that will have to cover the surgeon's and anaesthetists fees plus nursing care and whatever medication will be involved/required. 'Hotel' costs ie use of room and food included too.
It's quite a business!

Charleygirl5 Thu 09-Dec-21 18:15:36

Ah good. Even so the consultant asking for £25000 to my mind is eye-watering. Those are London prices. It just needs an extra push and the money will be sorted.

Aveline Thu 09-Dec-21 16:56:26

Charleygirl the family have already raised £11,000 so this fund raising is for £15,000 to allow for any necessary extras.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 09-Dec-21 16:21:12

I think it’s about £15k as family can raise the rest.

Charleygirl5 Thu 09-Dec-21 16:17:35

Aveline the actual amount to be found in total is £25K and I do not think I am mistaken.

The GFM needs newspaper coverage I think.
