Hello, I wonder if any one is suffering with this ailment. I am eighty. Have been treated at a variety of hospitals over a period of ten years. First surgery carried out in 2003. Am between a rock and a hard place. Can have a colostomy at a private BMI hospital for £25,000, or wait indefinitely on the NHS waiting list with no date for the foreseeable. Every day is a challenge. I appreciate that there are countless people far worse off than I am. I would however be most grateful of any first hand information that can help me to manage this dire situation. Thank you.

Dearest you lovely peoples...state of the art hearing aids in situ. I went for a wee and frightened myself when I heard what I thought was a burst water pipe.wink

Time for feet up and a relaxing evening. Tomorrow is a new day. I wish good things for every one of you. smile moon

Those new hearing aids must be impressive Soop grin

I see the ‘Happy Christmas’ total is still creeping up, I feel sure it will get there before the surgery takes place.

Just bumping the thread to keep things going. I guess it’s inevitable that donations slow down after a few days unless some new publicity is found. Any hope of something in the local paper or on local radio/tv soop?

soop Thu 09-Dec-21 10:51:41

Blossoming We shall commit ourselves to the surgery when we speak to the surgeon tomorrow evening. There really is no choice as the "problem" worsens every day. I often imagine that the bowel will rupture. Best put such gruesome thoughts on the back boiler. Agreed? hmm

Dental appointment in a couple of hours. Let joy be unconfined. wink

Marydoll Thu 09-Dec-21 10:53:57

Now at £11704. Getting there, but you are correct, GSM, we need a further push.

Blossoming Thu 09-Dec-21 10:58:40

Sorry Soop I didn’t mean to upset you or sound negative.

Aveline Thu 09-Dec-21 12:08:38

Gosh Soop that sounds awful. Any chance of the op being sooner?

Charleygirl5 Thu 09-Dec-21 12:19:15

Aveline unfortunately soop needs to have the money to hand first before anything can be finalised.

muse Thu 09-Dec-21 12:58:39

? You sound positive soop about the call with the surgeon tomorrow night. Look forward to your news.

Jaxjacky Thu 09-Dec-21 13:27:13

Onwards soop, you trust your surgeon, that’s paramount, so he’ll advise and act accordingly, the very best of luck for tomorrow’s meeting. X

Aveline Thu 09-Dec-21 13:32:01

I know that some private hospitals have payment plans Soop now has a huge down payment. Surely the rest can be paid off monthly? Only £3000 ish to go.

Aldom Thu 09-Dec-21 13:33:09

Good to see that Soop's GFM fund has moved upwards smile. Hoping you can have your surgery asap dear Soop. Keeping you in my thoughts flowers

soop Thu 09-Dec-21 15:18:06

Bless you all.

Dentist didn't need to torture me. wink Six months before I return. I couldn't vacate the chair quickly enough.

After tomorrow's evening's discussion with the surgeon, I shall report back and share every detail with you. We continue to do extraordinarily well. In just eight days we have been beyond fortunate, thanks to the generosity of family, friends, friends of friends and my super special Gransnetter friends. flowers

Calistemon Thu 09-Dec-21 15:24:31

soop, no, she put me through it instead grin
I'm still recovering!

? I hope your discussion goes well and the fund continues to rise

Charleygirl5 Thu 09-Dec-21 16:17:35

Aveline the actual amount to be found in total is £25K and I do not think I am mistaken.

The GFM needs newspaper coverage I think.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 09-Dec-21 16:21:12

I think it’s about £15k as family can raise the rest.

Aveline Thu 09-Dec-21 16:56:26

Charleygirl the family have already raised £11,000 so this fund raising is for £15,000 to allow for any necessary extras.

Charleygirl5 Thu 09-Dec-21 18:15:36

Ah good. Even so the consultant asking for £25000 to my mind is eye-watering. Those are London prices. It just needs an extra push and the money will be sorted.

Aveline Thu 09-Dec-21 20:06:12

It'll be the hospital that sets the charge and that will have to cover the surgeon's and anaesthetists fees plus nursing care and whatever medication will be involved/required. 'Hotel' costs ie use of room and food included too.
It's quite a business!

Marydoll Fri 10-Dec-21 08:56:58

Bumping!
£11,824

shysal Fri 10-Dec-21 10:27:39

I have just made another donation, let us hope a few more people are able to do the same. ?

Marydoll Fri 10-Dec-21 15:44:04

Reached £12,000

soop Fri 10-Dec-21 15:57:48

Gulp! Smelling salts, please. I'm in a deep swoon. Bloody fantastic...that's all that I can say right now. grin

Auntieflo Fri 10-Dec-21 16:08:42

That's fantastic

soop Fri 10-Dec-21 19:11:25

Dearest you lovely lot. I had a very informative conversation with Mr McCourtney, the surgeon. The surgery will take place in the first quarter of next year. He will now present my case including my age etc to the finance department who set the amount for the proposed surgery. I shall receive a letter with details in the not too distant future. Mr McCourtney needs to see us in person in January. The surgery is major with risks of which we must be made fully aware. We both feel uplifted and remain confident. Please share with Kitcheners as I shall now need to log off until tomorrow. smile moon
