Partial dental deep clean

I'm coming up for my second deep clean appointment shortly, and I'm thinking of telling the dentist that this is the last time I'll be coming. The first appointment was awful, and he wants four appointments of an hour each in total.
My lower gums are red, but I don't have toothache, or loose teeth, or bad breath.
The treatment will cost £400. I can afford it but I can't decide whether the treatment is really necessary, or whether the practice is trying to recoup cash from lockdown.
Has anyone else done this, refused to complete the treatment?

Had dentist appointment and a hygienist appointment recently. I am still in loads of discomfort from the hygienist! She went way below the gum line and the sensitivity since is unbearable three weeks later. I went to see dentist again and he painted “stuff” on which has helped a bit. I’ve also had an extraction of double back tooth as due to Covid I didn’t want to return for numerous appointments required for a crown which my dentist wasn’t hopeful of being successful anyway. Prefer to see my dentist any day.

What’s a “pocket”

@crazyH unfortunately where the gum is loose around the tooth, like a front pocket on a cardigan.

I recommend using a Waterpik prior to cleaning your teeth. It’s amazing how much debris is rinsed out. Never so much rinses out when cleaning. Fill the Waterpik with warm water.

My nhs dentist always prods my gums top and bottom and then says a number. It’s usually 1 or 2 but sometimes 3. I was always fearful of a 4.
I knew it was something to do with the gums but no one has ever suggested I see a hygienist. He usually gives them a quick clean and that’s it.
Is this what you are talking about. Pockets? Eeeek!
Am staggered how expensive it is.

Healthy gums are pink if you have red gums then that would signify inflammation. The deep cleaning is a periodontal treatment to protect your teeth and gums. It is necessary to clean below the gum line as that is where plaque get in and will gradually loosen the teeth. It is nigh on impossible for you to clean there with a toothbrush but once the area is clean properly proper cleaning will maintain it. Money well spent better to spend money on cleaning then root canals or extractions.

I had my teeth cleaned, then a jet wash. I was in chair for over an hour and my jaw kept locking so dentist was massaging side of my face. It took so long as no cleans during lockdown. Next one already booked so hoping it won't take so long next time. Cost 150.00 which was the price I paid back in 2019.
