I take 1000 iu/25ug a day - when I remember i.e. about five times a week. I started taking it at the beginning of Covid as I heard that it helped with immunity.
I have noticed that my nails are stronger and my mood has improved.
On a side note about taking too much. I read that magnesium was supposed to help you to sleep. I started taking magnesium tablets (can't remember the dose, just some over the counter ones). I was also putting Epsom salts in the bath. A few months later I had an unrelated blood test. It came back saying my calcium levels were high!! I stopped taking it.
