Stage 3 kidney disease

It’s a shock and a wake up call that your kidneys need care and attention. You can’t usually reverse any damage but you can decide to take steps to stop it getting any worse.

Have you had lifestyle advice?

No just having a repeat blood test so will know more hopefully soon, I’ve changed my lifestyle in the last 9 months and I am feeling really well, ( having never been a drinker or smoker ) but have been on some meds for quite few years, ( autoimmune illnesses not sure wether they have affected kidneys, but willing to do anything to improve my health

I’ve been stage 3 since my late 30’s. I’m 72 and still stage 3. Drink lots of water, especially before blood tests, and enjoy life

I was told about two and a half years ago I had kidney disease G3a. What shocked me was being told It had been diagnosed over six years earlier. Not once was I told about this. I was asked questions about lifestyle etc and sent for a scan. I was told that the medication for osteoarthritis and blood pressure I was prescribed were probably a contributory factor.
I feel let down by the medical centre where I have been a patient for over thirty years. I have had no tests for nearly two years because of Covid now I have been told to have my blood tests I am sixty five.

Another stage 3 here, probably since 2006 if not before. I have annual blood tests to keep an eye on it and it's known to have dropped a couple of notches since diagnosis.
My annual blood test is tomorrow so I hope it hasn't shifted.
I take Spironolactone, a diuretic ( potassium-sparing )

You can live for years with stage 3. It's not a death sentence.

Thanks EllanVannin - I have various auto immune conditions and wonder if they/the drugs I have had to take to manage them are relevant, in the end it scarcely matters what caused or perpetuates stage 3 as you say, live with it x

I was shocked to be told I was Stage 3 about 10years ago. When I asked my Dr about it she said the majority of my age group are stage 3 and not to worry about it.
I am still Stage 3 and have no treatment or medication for it

DM has had it for last 5 years at least. Now she is 86. She is on amlodipine for possible hypertension for last year. She does not drink enough water - says she does but not. Has annual bloods that's all.

Drinking more water helps. As avitor1 says, many people have this.

Hoping to hear positive stories about CKD. My current egfr is 32 which is down from 48 in less than a year.
I have another blood test booked for Friday, so we'll see what they say.
The original blood test was for sodium, which makes me think you should never go to the doctor's as they will always find something else wrong with you.

Most people with stage 3 CKD don't die of renal failure.(although of you are having a scan or antibiotics, make sure staff know you have CKD3 as Xray contrast will temporarily hit the kidneys, as will some antibiotics; take responsibility & tell them, then they can make the best decision as to what to use)
