Intraocular Lens (IOL) Replacements?

I have an intraocular lens in one of my eyes because of a macular hole and surgery for that. It is good but soon after I had it I had to have laser surgery on that eye. This was about 15 years ago so things have probably progressed.

I recently had cataract surgery on both eyes, and after a lifetime of extreme short sight and contact lens, it’s been like ten miracles. I deeply regret never even having considered having lens replacement surgery when I was much younger.

I have had both eyes done and I don't need glasses at all now but I do still have problems with night driving.
I would definitely recommend having it done though as it has been like a miracle for me.

Thanks thanks for your answers so far - it makes me feel a bit better and is easing my hesitancy. I value my eyesight ?, as we all do!

As for night driving, Mokryna, that is an interesting question you have posed. Hopefully we shall have some more answers. smile

Have you found out if it helps with night driving?

A friend had it done a few years ago. She is very happy with it and has no need fir even the weakest reading glasses.

Funnily enough, I was in hospital today and talking to a nurse who has had it. She said it was marvellous and she wished that she’d had it done earlier.
She said that she wouldn’t need reading glasses either

Yes, I had a refractive lens exchange and so did my sister about five years ago. My sister was able to have both her distance and near vision corrected but I was only able to have the distance vision corrected due to other problems with my eyes. We were both long term glasses wearers and also contact lenses. My sister doesn’t need any glasses at all now and I need them for close work. My distance vision is very good. It was a good decision. Like you, I always hated glasses and had worn contact lenses for about fifty years. Although I still need glasses for close work, I don’t regret my decision. Good luck.

I hate wearing glasses. ? My optician recommended progressive lenses at my last appointment but, as I said, I hate wearing glasses. I could try contact lenses but it's another hassle.

Having had a consultation for eye laser surgery ?, I am too old to have laser surgery to correct near and distant vision. Intraocular lens replacement is another alternative with the bonus that with artificial lenses - cataracts don't develop.

Has anyone had intraocular lens replacements and what was the outcome? Was it a good decision?
