Spoke to friend last night. She has just had cataracts removed from both eyes and had bifocal lensed fitted. This was done privately, however she paid an extra £6000 in total for these lenses. She can not believe the difference they have made. She can read the papers etc without the need for glasses. She is 83.

My DH needed cataract surgery and took the opportunity to have a lens fitted that would correct his severe astigmatism and long sight. We paid £2500 per eye privately. He's had nine years without glasses at all but now needs varifocals again. The astigmatism remains sorted. Good luck!

I need to have cataract surgery in the next few weeks and am trying to decide my best option of lens. The monofocal is the only choice offered by the NHS with other lenses starting at around £2,000 which I am willing to pay if the results justify it. I would appreciate comments or advice from anyone who has been faced with this same situation and indeed any comments at all relating to cataract surgery, good or bad.
