I am in a lot of pain (backpain) but onl when I sit down. Could this be connected to osteoarthritis, which I have.

Thank you silverlining, its such a miserable thing to suffer with, I am just hoping it clears really fast, good luck to all suffering painful conditions just nowx

I had impingement on my shoulder which was dealt with first by an injection and later day surgery to shave away the bone which was impinging on it’s neighbour. It worked well and am fine. This may not help in your case but mention in case it does.
I now have a lot of hip pain and await an operation which I posted about earlier today, so do understand, particularly the sleep disturbance.
Wishing you well,

Thanks Luckygirl and Aldom, I will go online and look further into it. I have been on codeine, but it makes me sleepy. However, the pain has eased greatly to what it was, but is still agonising when lying in bed at night. I use Voltarol rub on my outer thigh muscle, which helps a little. I am retiring in July, from a teaching assistant job in a special needs school, and it can't come fast enough!! I stayed on for an extra year, thinking it would be fine, nice to have some extra cash, but I am regretting it now, due to this condition. I wonder how common it is in our age group? Thanks again, you lovely peoplex

There's a lot of information if you go online BridgetPark I've just looked and this condition can lead to arthritis. Hope you have some responses from GN who have similar experience. Best wishes.

You poor thing, Can your GP not give you some proper pain relief? I am on a small dose of an opiate via a skin patch which I change every week. I have sciatic and femoral nerve pain and hip pain. I top the patch up with paracetamol and I am able to tolerate the pain most of the time; and very little in the way of side effects from the patch.

I have recently been suffering from this condition, and I have to say the pain has been unbearable. Initially, my doctor suspected arthritis, so I had to wait for an appointment for an x-ray. This took approx 3 weeks to come through, but luckily the result were sent to my doctor the next day. No arthritis showing up on x-ray, so was referred to surgery's physio specialist. He did a little examination on my movement etc, and then told me that I was suffering from Femoral Acetabular Impingement. Supposedly usually seen in women over 60, who are quite active. But he couldn't tell me if it would recur, or if the excercises he has recommended would keep it a bay for good. I have had to stay off work for over a month, as I was quite imobile, and the pain was enough to make me cry.
So, does anyone else have any knowledge of this condition, and what are your experiences of its length of time and does it eventually heal itself? Many thanks, Gransnetters, in advance
