Alendronic acid

I’ve been taking alendronic acid for 7 years after being diagnosed with osteoporosis.
If Covid hadn’t come along I would have seen a dr about it and asked for a bone scan to see if it was working.
However it seems a bit trivial to bother them just now. Anyone else in similar position?

Elaine1 thank you so much for your post. The fall I had was quite mild, I tripped over backwards and went down from standing to the floor. Yes a small fall, and as I assumed at the time that it was soft tissue injury it was a month before I actually had an MRI which showed the spinal stress fracture.

The day after the fall I had run my surgery in tears from the pain I was in, but saying it was soft tissue injury and just asking for strong pain killers, which they gave to me.

So, when that MRI result came in, think they went into small panic. Surgery had done nothing wrong, but the Senior Partner was very angry that this had been missed. I was then 78 years old. So I was put on Alendronic Acid. However, I have had other falls since then, and never experienced any bone damage.

A 'coding' put on my records makes sense as to why my new practice has just continued with this medication. Think I will be insisting on a Deka Scan soon. Would be astonished if it actually showed up any real problems with my bone density.

Had 6 years of Alendronic acid when I was a lot younger. I have had Osteoporosis for 60 years now and broken both hips one which never healed and I am now 4 inches shorter on my left side. My bones are SO porous now I finished up in hospital with three fractures in my vertebra when just turning slightly to get my tea towel.
Last year I fractured a bone in my cocyxx just by bending while sitting to take my sandal off.
Now having sessions of Zoledronic acid infusions.
