Oh gosh, how awful Yammy. Thanks for the warning. My problem is that I can’t take the other first line defence drug Nitrofurantoin, as it makes my asthma a very bad and makes me cough and wheeze terribly.

maddyone Thu 24-Feb-22 14:21:18

hulahoop please go to the walk in centre today, don’t wait till tomorrow.

FannyCornforth Thu 24-Feb-22 14:22:05

Oh hulahoop
That’s not good at all.
Your GP sounds rubbish.

Please have a look online for the antibiotics that you can order.
Hope it goes well and thank you feel much better soon

FannyCornforth Thu 24-Feb-22 14:22:40

Maddy is right

Please get some proper treatment. My mum had a UTI on holiday in Cyprus, she "didn't want to bother anyone" and decided just to drink lots to help it. She finished up hallucinating and vomitting, we had to call an emergency doctor and she was hospitalised and put on a drip. Early antibiotics would have been so much better.

FannyCornforth Thu 24-Feb-22 14:26:54

trisher my husband was hallucinating with a UTI earlier this week.
Luckily we have an excellent service here which I am extremely grateful for.
DH had a home visit and the antibiotics were delivered that afternoon.

I wenr to loo very frequently for a few days. One morning I collapsed twice, hit my head. DD called ambulance who gave thorough examination, and made appointment with GP who later that day prescribed antibiotics, and these were reviewed over the next few days, resulting in stronger ones. Never realised before how serious UTIs were, so hope you can see someone or phone today.

If someone becomes confused or delirious it’s always sensible to request a urine test.

Dogsmakemesmile Thu 24-Feb-22 14:36:01

I am not sure if this of help but I recently had a phone call from GP re possible urine infection (it wasn't). I was told that I can get treatment/advice from pharmacy as "being a woman of your age group". I was not aware of this. I live in Scotland so not sure if applicable elsewhere in UK. Why not give local pharmacy a ring? I am pretty sure I was told anti biotics could be given out.

Dogsmakemesmile Thu 24-Feb-22 14:39:11

I mean ring the pharmacy to check I am giving out correct info. Would hate to waste your time or that of pharmacist.

I had a bad one on Christmas Eve and was also allergic to the antibiotic the GP prescribed. The doctor at NHS 111 insisted I went to my GP when I was better and ask for low dose vaginal HRT. This has been an absolute revelation, just marvellous. Sohulahoop please investigate that. Good luck and get those antibiotics first.

Whiff Thu 24-Feb-22 15:28:08

hulahoop you need to go to the walk in today. Cranberry does not work. You need antibiotics. Don't wait you could end up with a kidney infection and believe me they are awful. Between September 2020 and May 2021 I had 16 courses of antibiotics due to UTIs and kidney infections. Was referred to an urologist March last year seeing the urologist on Tuesday. Luckily not had an UTI or kidney infection since my last one. But I need to know if my kidneys are damaged also why did I have so many infections one after the other.

I found you need a 5-7 day course of antibiotics. 3 days wasn't enough.

Daisend1 Thu 24-Feb-22 15:34:21

Farzanah
In my my local surgery you can go to reception and pick up a sample bottle then return with the necessary in your case would be a urine sample
You wait to hear from your GP if he /she wants to discuss feedback from the result of the sample and if you need treatment.

Barmeyoldbat Thu 24-Feb-22 15:34:57

Just to say thanks for the get well wishes for my daughter but have had a phone call to say basically expect the worse.

maddyone Thu 24-Feb-22 15:46:22

I also use a low dose HRT vaginal cream which has helped a lot. It’s called Ovestin. I still get the odd UTI though, but this has been my first kidney infection.

maddyone Thu 24-Feb-22 15:47:05

Oh no Barmey I’m so very sorry. Prayers and thoughts to you today.

Daisend1 Thu 24-Feb-22 15:50:45

Whiff
If you are prone to kidney /urine infections drink plenty of water Cider vinegar added to the water acts as a natural antibiotic.

Farzanah Thu 24-Feb-22 16:01:34

Daisend1 Thanks. Nor sure if your advice was really intended for me, but after living with cystitis on and off for 50 years I am well versed in how to manage attacks now, but it can be difficult.
I must reiterate what someone said up thread. Vaginal oestrogen is a great help in preventing postmenopause UTIs as it helps to rebuild the vaginal lining and promotes lubrication in that area.

silverlining48 Thu 24-Feb-22 16:05:46

Barmy sending my best wishes to your daughter flowers

hulahoop Thu 24-Feb-22 16:12:41

* Barmy*sorry to read your last post my thoughts are with you and your family ??
Thanks for all your advice not feeling too bad at moment drinking plenty I am hoping I have caught it early ,you are a very caring group of ladies.?

Daisymae Thu 24-Feb-22 16:15:05

You can buy antibiotics online now, useful for a one off. Obviously see your GP if recurrent.

Marmite32 Thu 24-Feb-22 17:07:20

Good idea about taking in a urine sample. Might force them to take some action.
BTW I have the same problem of our doctors being incommmunicando. pharmacy more flexible.
